This just started happening but after playing for 5-10 minutes on any server (regardless of ping time), I get incredible lag/shakiness. I don't think it's lag as opposed to driver problems or something but I'm not sure how to fix it. The best way to describe it is it's like the guy I'm playing has parkinson's disease. He shakes all over the place even when I'm not moving.

I've tried updating my video drivers, turning the video and audio effects way down or off and tried connecting to servers that were practically empty but no success. Anyone experiencing anything similar or have any solutions? Like I said before, it just started happening.

Let go of the mouse ;)

Sorry, I don't know.

I have got the same problem. Exactly. After a couple of minutes it starts shaking and going on like if drunk.

happened to me a few times, and if your not careful, you can accidentally go flying just by walking forward too much... weird.. its engine insecurity's im sure of it.. i betcha valve will have a fix for this in the next update.

yep its happened to me to...just hl2dm's netcode i suppose. valve might fix it within time, till then...going to have to shake like an old woman for the remainder of your years

Maybe you could try lowering your resolution? I was experiencing similar problems in CS:S, even though DM works fine at 1024x768, so I lowered to 800x600, and I can fire a weapon without feeling like I'm having a seizer again!

i bought my pc 14 months ago from alienware as a hl2 machine basically, and had nothing but problems running hl2. i experience 'cannot "read" memory errors', crashing, lag and/or what you just mentioned about the violent, but random movement. also, the problems always seemed to get worse with time, exponentially if you may.

in the end i went into my bios and found out my cpu temperature was 77 degrees celcius when it should not really be above 60, ever (athlon xp 3000+). if you have done all the checks, new drivers, check connection, etc. or even as far as a fresh format like i did, it may be worth getting MBM and checking your temps as this was my problem in the end. end result was to remount my heatsink/fan, now my temp never goes above the 50's, and hl2 is solid as a rock.

i did find, however, that going into my sound control panel, into bottom advanced, into performance tab and cranking sound quality and hardware acceleration down to the minumum values always helped at the time, allowing me to play longer without problems (overheating ;(); although if this works, its not a fix.

you guys might wanna also try increasing the amount of RAM that hl2 is allowed to use.. there's a switch that you can use when loading the game.. I think it's -heapsize 512000 for 512,000kb? That's just from memory.. but you might wanna check on it.. just make sure you don't allocate too much.. with Windows, you never know if it'll allow you to allocate so much RAM to a game that the system just halts :D lol

yup... if you have two 512mb ram dimmms, then 512 is a nice amount as it basically allocates one chip to the game, the heapsize is use is 512*1024.. so basicaly, right click half-life 2 (deathmatch) in play games in steam, click launch options, and type -heapsize 524288 -console .. when you load hl2 you will notice the first or second line of the console will say 512mb allocated, or something similar. may not help your specific problem, but you should do it anyway. :stare:

ahah definitely.. because I wouldn't trust trust Windows to allocate enough of anything to anything...

Try and set

cl_smooth 0

If you do not have the console to enter this command on your main Hl2 sceen, add '-console' to your launch options (like described above for heapsize) and it should appear.

As a matter of fact, the smoothing seems to be buggy. If I set rate and cmdrate / updaterate too high (more than 10000/20/20), I get incredible jumps and lags and I also expereinced the 'run like hell' and 'shake like an autumn tree' versions of it.
For me this vanishes completely when I issue the above command.

I trust in it allocating money for Mircos~1. ;)

no its nothing to do with how the system is running the game....at least i wasn't for me when it happened...its like a physical thing....like someone has got hold of you with the gravity gun and is shaking you around...i'll try and record a demo because it happens a lot on halflife2.net's server

it got that bad with me once that it ended up hurling me into the sky

1. Please try all the advice first, it can really be caused by

lack of memory (=>heapsize 512000)
smoothing (=>cl_smooth 0)
gfx settings too high (=> reduce resolution)
net seettings (reduce rate, cl_cmdrate and cl_updaterate)

asf. see above for all the useful advice.

2. Check your system for spyware and trojans.
eg. google for 'spybot' and 'antivir' and let them check ur system.

3. Try another server! If your ping is too bad (i.e. you are too far away) no tweaking will help. Sort the server lsit according to ping and take the ones with the lowest values.

If all of this won't help, bang your head against a nearby wall of your choice :)
