Help with SDK on Laptop

Hey!,
I am having problems with my Compaq Presario V6000 Laptop and Valve's Source SDK.

The Problem I am having is that everytime I launch SDK, it works fine. But when I get as far as Hammer and try to go to file> new. Hammer just quits without any errors or no problems showing, it just quits.

I would like to know if anyone has encountered this on a laptop and what they used to fix it. My laptop can support Doom 3 and Unreal Tournament 2004 and their level editors without any problems.

Is there some form of patch out there to make Hammer work for Compaq laptops?

have you tried deleting the sdk and reinstalling ?.
