Probably already mentioned but combine solidiers refer to antlions as biotics. Anyone with gcfscape should listen to prison_solidier_freeman_antlions. They refer to freeman as having full command and control of biotics.

I'm still trying to figure if biotics is specific for antlions, or just all natural creatures.

Antlions aren't used as weapons. Gordon uses them as allies, with the help of his bugbait. Besides how informative would it be to say "We're being attacked by soldiers!"? I think a message would sound "We're being attacked by Combine Soldiers", or "We're being attacked by U.S. soldiers!".
