Nonetheless, if you want a solution for your problem, you'll have to give more specifics. At the very least, tell us your system specs and how you run HL2 - and refrain from posting rude comments or there won't be too many people interested in helping.

Sorry, but not everyone has been posting in forums for 3 years and knows all the standard rules. No need to bash this guy. I'm sure nobody here has accidently clicked "Submit Topic" more than once and had a duplicate topic show up. Grow up and be a little more mature, this guy just needs some help and wants his HL2 to run properly. I for one don't blame him, how would you feel if your HL2 didn't work.
I hate when I join a new forum and run into a bunch of rude posters like all of you, all ready to jump down the throat of the new guy.. your all so high and mighty with your 1000 posts, 0o0o0o0o0oo, god forbid a new person comes around and wants to discuss something. I'm just saying guys.. Cmon.. I'm actually a moderator on a well known site, and I know how easy it is to open the moderator control panel, click 2 topics and hit delete. I mean god forbid your eyes have to strain to scan over those extra 2 topic lines of text until a moderator rolls in.... I also know how hard it can be when you join a new forum and everyone thinks your a noob because you didn't join back in 2003, and I know how that feels when people are rude to you for that one and only reason. Sure... he was rude back, and probably a little immature... but what do you expect when he comes to ask an honest question and get's bashed and told to shoot himself? It's frustrating. Personally, I think it's the rude people who should get bashed and warned.

NJspeed, I know how you feel... sometimes joining a new forum is an unpleasant experience even if you have spent years on other forums. I generally find, though, that, as long as you don't ask often-asked questions and use proper spelling, people don't really consider you a "noob" for too long. Then again, I have been foruming for over six years, and still consider myself a noob at halflife2.net forums.

haha this thread actually turned out really cool, when i first read ravens post i was like wow this guy needs help i feel bad for him, then i read his second post and i was like naw he doesnt deserve to play hl2, he can just make mom jokes all day he doesnt need a videogame to have fun!!! good for him, we can only hope to accomplish as much as he has in our lifetime

OK, to fix your problem, I would delete hl2.exe and related .gfc (or gcf) files and redownload/reinstall Half Life 2. A pain, but a solution that usually works.
Something may be corrupt.
Also check you have your latest drivers (people always mention, but it is usually teh case)
Check your DirectX is up to 9.0c
Sound card drivers
And your system is virus free. if you need, head over to www.avast.com (matter of preference, some may say AVG, others Norton, others McAfee)
