I have been seeing a few online shops having HL2 up for pre-order, i know they dont know the release date etc etc but its not really about that. When ever i see it it just says HL2. There is nothing about the SE or the mp/sp editions of the game. I think its kinda stupid, these websites dont seem to know what they are selling :/

That's just it, they don't know what they're selling. It's all speculation.

Thats why you don't trust anything the retailers say.

Yeah...that's exactly why I'm not preordering. Better to just wait until it's released, as then you'll know what options you have in terms of special editions, etc.

Or just wait untill valve has officaly said what is happening and it all goes gold etc, TBH i think im going to walk up to my local "Game" and just get it off the shelf, i dont care home much it costs !

well it may seem stupid to u, but Valve hasn't given any info on the pricing and such.. but the stores still wanna take pre-orders so they do the next best thing..

u pre-order (deposit of $20 dollars should be enough) and then when the game is released and u come in to pick up ur copy, they let u choose which version u want and subtract the difference from the deposit..

at least thats how retailers are doing it.. for online shopping its different.. perhaps Valve will release the pricing info maybe a week or 2 before the actual release date to the online retailers and stores.. then maybe u get an email explaining whats going on..

i find it much less complicated by just going to the local gaming store and pre-ordering there.

All the shops should be selling just the regular full retail package of Half-Life 2 as it's the only product offically announced from the publisher. Sierra have not yet given information on the single player/special edition versions and shops shouldn't be selling these until later in the year.

Well if you preorder (i did) just do it from a reputable site, best bet being ebgames since they are the major game retailer and get games before best buy etc.

Why exactly would one shop get anything before another just cos it's bigger? That doesn't make sense as all copies go out at the same time!

Is reserving the game at a retailer the same as pre-ordering it? I was under the impression that pre-order meant u pay in full and the ship it to u, while reserving means u put down any amt of cash and make sure they dont sell ur copy at the actual retail store.

And also, why do people say they arnt going to pre-order, just because its not cirtain when the release date is? Its not like they will steal ur money if it gets delayed, u will still get it when it comes out.

Pre-ordering online is simply reserving a copy. Once it's sent off to you, you'll be charged for only the game (plus shipping if necessary).

Its not about the money, its about what your getting, ie SP or MP or SE Editions of the game.

I will pre-order the collectors edition at okaysoft.de .
Best site if you want import a game in germany^^

A note of advice - never give any company money when pre-ordering a product. Always make sure they only charge you when it's dispatched. Most companies don't charge until dispatch but that are some dodgy 'companies' who take your money and 'forget' your pre-order.

I was looking for release dates yesterday and EBgames is now offering a preorder for Half-Life 2 Collector's Edition, the price is around $80. You have to give a credit card number to reserve your copy but you dont have to pay for it until the game comes in. They didnt say what's in the collector's edition but im sure its cool, im thinking about reserving a copy.
