Ok, so Hl2's ending ended on a huge cliffhanger and alot of questions being unanswered. All that's been said about the G-man is speculation, and we don't know if Alyx and Breen survive. So this thread is your story of how Hl3 begins. Here's mine; bear in mind this is directly after your encounter with the G-man in the end.

-------------------------------------------------------------

The G-man walks out the door, while fixing his tie and holding his briefcase. Suddenly, Gordon's vision comes back, and time slowly speeds up. The explosion sends you and Alyx through the window behind you both, and the screen once again goes white.
Colour slowly fades back in to notice you're on the train at the start of the game, which in a split second flashes into one of the combine trains. You run out the door, noticing the G-man walk up a flight of stairs staring at a headcrab, which backs away from him. You're unarmed, so you quickly run past the headcrab, thinking you're catching up with the G-man, but he has disappeared. After you assend the stairs, you see yourself in the middle of a war with Xen and the combine forces. Alien grunts now appear, aswell as 'Big momma'. All these and the striders are causing havoc, blowing up buildings and sending reinforcements. All of a sudden, a big bolt of light comes from the citadel, and your screen goes white and a ringing noise is heard.

"Gordon, wake up! Gordon!" Says Alyx, as her voice gets louder and louder and penetrating the ringing sound.

Colour comes back into the screen again as you bring yourself to your feet. You're surrounded by computers, and outside the top of the citadel has been blown apart. At that moment, rumbling can be heard and gunships hovering outside. There's 2 of them, and both you and Alyx are still unarmed. You both frantically look around the room trying to unlock the doors, but they're bolted shut with the combine locks. The only way out is down the giant rumble where the gunships lurk..

"Gordon, look around for any weapons and let's go!" Exclaims Alyx.

.. But it's no use; No weapons, no Zpeg (Zero point energy gun) to be seen. As you think of what to do, you hear a familiar voice and 2 huge explosions.

BOOOM! BANG BANG BOOM!

Smoke appears and as it clears, a massive helicopter can be seen. As you squint to see who it is who has taken down the gunships, you're quick to see Barney and DOG! There are a few resistant fighters in the back with RPG's, and Barney is controlling the huge mounted pulse cannon.

"Alyx! Gordon! Get in, quickly!" Barney shouts while telling the pilot to get closer to the massive hole in the wall where you and Alyx originally were sent through by the devestating explosion.

As you both climb into the back of the helicopter, atleast 20 computers inside the citadel room turn on with no other than Dr Breen on the monitors.

"Freeman.. I offered you what could've been a co operation between us! You fool; We'll now see what your other option is.. DEATH!"

Combine radios can be heard shooting the doors to enter the room, and as the helicopter flies off you catch a glimpse of an elite combine unit. They don't have any helmets on, and a chargrilled humane face can be seen, with their blue with white striped uniform. They're all carrying RPG's and Irifles, which soon smack the side of the helicopter and send you down.. send you down right into the war between Xen and Combine.

Just my thoughts on what would be sweet :D

I think valve will take the opportunity to take the game away from city 17, it would be silly for them not too, to be honest i'd be happy to leave and not have to replay through the same environments over again.

As to what i think might happen, it could be literally anything, with the fall of the citadael (the reactor is destroyed, they really arent going to get anywhere without that) We can assume that earth slowly turns back to human control. We can also be fairly sure that when Gordon returns it'll be for the g-man again, under new objectives, that leaves it open to.. pretty much everything. At the end the g-man says that he has accepted an offer that he would not usually accept, but times change (or something like that). Suggesting that maybe Freeman will next have to fight for the combine? or will at least be instructed to.

I just hope that HL3 won't be like Matrix Revolutions : lame ending without ANY answers.

I hope they don't explain G-man fully, because he'd lose his coolness.

They said it would be a trilogy, but I recon it will probably go on more than Hl3. There's so much more appeal in this game compared to others.. Valve make loads of profit so they have no reason to keep going with the Hl series.

As long as its nothing liek that i will be happy :)

And its not at all confirmed its going to be a trilogy, thats just a rumour. PC ZONE (UK mag) interviewed doug lombardi and he said that he doesnt know where that came from and they dont know how many they are going to make

It will be interesting to see how much the HL3 story relates to HL2. I think HL3 will again start years later, but hopefully the old characters will make a return, Alyx especially, I really like her. Of course, I'd love to see the answers about Combine and everything else at the end of HL3 - with something left open to the imagination.

well sometime (hl3 or beyond) ur gonna have to confront that G-man. all that business of "do what i say or i give u some odds u have no chance of winning" is really getting on my nerves :frown:

I just can't help but think how tough an adversary the G man will be. he will probably make the best finale boss ever seen in a game.

oh, and i don't think the G man and Gordon r the same person (some people still think that). that would just be lame. plus why would u put urself in a coma or sleep or whatever it is the G man puts Gordon on?!

 That's what I am guessing... the explosion and everything happens... from there Hl3. Then, we'll get into focus about that bug thing Breen was talking to.

Lol yeh about the trilogy thing, I seriously doubt they are going to limit it to 3 games.

Firstly because of the massive amounts of money they can make from it...

Secondly...well who wouldn't want a HL4 etc.? as long as they can keep the story original and good, and the gameplay amazing.

They risk a HUGE amount by pushing the game/story too far. It gets more and more difficult to make the 'next' game in the series live up to its predecessors. I just hope Valve don't spoil it.

Valve can do just about anything really, couldn't they?

Once you end the game like HL2 was ended...anything is possible.

I'm not even going to try to guess.

Baal, exaclty!
I believe valve created the HL ending, to allow them to do nearly anything for there next game and at the same time make it make sense in HL.
In HL2 they did the same thing, though I would of like to know what happened.

But overall the G-Man dosn't give you a choice in HL2, because he already knows what one you will accept. Because he wont fool around and give you an option of life or death because he already knows what one you will take. You took life once, you will take life again.

:| I am guessing we won't be seeing Half Life 3 in probably a long time though. Valve have to find other ideas to tamper with to make HL3 fresh and fun, just like Hl2 is to with physics and superb character emotions n stuff.

I seriously hope that hl3 is a massive and i mean really massive finale to the games. I mean double the size and quality of hl2 (I'm being greedy i know). this will put the hl games into the history books (well, they'r already in there, but a finale like how the LOTR trilogy ended would just be the icing on the cake)
I don't mind if it takes another 6 years to make! oh wait... actually i do mind. in 6 years i might have 4 or more little people who look like me running around the house :naughty:

HL3 is going to be the same engine with only slight modifications. So it's mostly going to be different content, but not much different in other terms. I hope that the parts of the HL2 engine that need improvement will be improved by then. For instance, dynamic lighting seemed weak to me.

Totally agree - if it were twice as long... man, well you said it - it would put HL in the history books for sure.

I don't think it'll take another 6 years for Hl3 to be made.. I'd say another 3 at the most. They've got the source engine ready than ever to build on it for Hl3, but it's just comin up with new and improved ideas. Would be sweet for it to be longer, although.. I did go terribly slow through it and it lasted me like 20 odd hours which was sweet. :D

since we are all giving theories .. here is mine

why everyone is thinking that hl3 is going to be some times ahead in future? if gman can manipulate time and is using freeman why not BACK in time? say even before Black Messa ? to stop it all from the very start?

i know its very vague possiblity but i think ( or atleast i wish ) hl3 would have both black messa and city 17 and it will start in "history" rather than in future

what do you guys say? :p

:| Of course Half Life 3 is going to be on the same engine as Half Life 2; Source Engine... but the Source engine is going to be worked on, given enhancements and sutff. So, until Valve decides when Source's technology is in the right state, sure... it could take 3 years, but yes it could still take 6 years... depending on how much progression the engine takes and Valve's decision to when they want to utilize it.

baqai, freeman is a pawn. The G-Man is simply a "Seller". Gordon is like a slave. The G-man knida of... "Sells" him you could say for a while. The G-Man sees no reason to turn back time as it really isn't his problem if earth dies or not. As long as he gets...well whatever he gets in return for putting gordon wherever..

yeah i understand that .. but few things make me think that way if i had power of controlling the time i would have gone back to fix few mistakes i did back in my life .. i know many of us would want to do the same .. so thinking in that POV i think it "might" happen .. just exploring possibilities here

Gordon was sent to City 17 and from what i have understood freeman's services are now offered .. have you noticed that in the ending it is mentioned

Time, Dr. Freeman. Is it really that time again? It seems as if you've only just arrived.

Remember Alyx and Freeman when they teleport it looked like a second to them but it actually a week ...

You've done a great deal in a small time...span. You've done so well, in fact, that I've received some interesting offers for your services. Ordinarily I wouldn't contemplate them but these are extraordinary...times.

Again reference to TIME

Rather than offer you the illusion of choice, I will take the liberty of choosing for you and when your...time...comes around again.

I do apologize for what must seem an arbitrary imposition, Dr. Freeman. I trust it will all make sense to you in the course of...well, I'm not really at liberty to say. In the mean...time...this is where I get off.

our first assumption is that the sentence would be completed by "time" agreed but time = past, present, future ..

like i said sounds very far fetched but hey we all are open to discussions here :)
