Granted this is a video game and up until that point Alyx had survived multiple gun shots and zombie swipes, but even Half-Life adheres to a certain level of realism. At the end of Ep one she and Gordon are hanging off the back of the train, and at worst caught in the midst of a quantum singularity or at best caught is horrendous wreckage of mangled steel. Gordon's survival could be attributed to his suit and he is even severely injured as a result. Alyx survived not only unharmed, but perky!
So how is this possible. Did the G-Man find a way to save her before the crash? Thoughts?

She is agile. She would have done the whole running, jumping, and holding onto stuff thing.

We didn't actually see the crash. She could have jumped out at a point where the train was slowing or something. Recall Freeman took a car to the face in Episode 1.

Did anyone notice that in every first appearance of Alyx she freed/saved you from something?

HL2: Alyx saves you from the CPs
EP1: She and Dog digg you out of the rubble.
EP2: She frees you from the train.

I'm curious if this has any deeper meaning. And if this is intended, how do you think will be her first appearance in EP3 like? I think you will have to go without her first, the helicopter will crash and you'll get knocked out. When you wake up, Alyx is already about to free you from the crashed helicopter. Or something like that.

No no no. I can explain this so easly. She had Buddha Mode on. There a perfectly logical explaination.

They're both people.

Coincidence? I think not!

3words, Penis Cake Cream.

I mean errr.

Well, we didnt really see Alyx holding on to that metal grail now did we. AFAIC, that was only in the trailer.

What I meant is that you and Alyx are standing at the caboose of the train watching the citadel explode all the way up until the explosion seems to overtake you (at which point Alyx whimpers Gordon...).

Gordon shields her. That's why he's KO'd and she's not.

There are no coincidences, only conspiracies! ;)

As to Alyx, she fell off the bridge, landed on her butt, and was unharmed.

?

well, he doesn't have any hands or legs, so facepalm is impossible.

on topic, who knows. they changed where the train was so it may have just been done for the hell of it.

Not too sure that explains why Gordon was thrown to the rear of the train and Alyx was off in some other area. Maybe the G-Man has been keeping tabs on her ever since he saved her from BM, and after EP 1 it is clear that she is a worthy fighter like Gordon...

She was never KO'd and dragged him somewhere less exposed. And waited.

Na, Gordon was obviously knocked back by the car and flung inside the train carage while alyx was left outside and must have climbed round.

She survived because you wouldn't have much of a game to play if she died.

Plot continuity was her defence of choice.

When you first meet up with her again she is shocked to discover you.
"When I couldn't find you I..."

Also I highly doubt she faired better than Gordon with the whole lack of an HEV suit thing. I think of Ep 1 as a kind of crucible for Alyx like Black Mesa was for Gordon. When you two are separated in the hospital, look what kind of carnage she causes without your assistance(dead combine soldiers and zombie everywhere.

No one seems to care that the train is a mangled mess and Alyx is perfectly fine. People die in car crashes that are a walk in the par compared to what happened to that train.

Some people just get lucky at times. I saw a police chase a while back where the guy racing away from the cops in a corvette wrecked it at 80+mph and was thrown completely free of the Vette.... only able to get up and try to run just before getting the dog sicked on him. :) It was awesome.

My guess is that the G-Man intervened to save both Gordon and Alyx. In Episode 2 he hints that he put in a lot of hard work and was met with a lot of opposition to save Alyx from Black Mesa. He's not going to let her die so simply as in a train crash.

it wasnt just a train crash....

The crash was caused by the mass of energy emminating from the citadel, which took out trees, vehicles, walls, buildings and the train, causing the bridge ahead to collapse and the train to simply dive into the corge, but Alyx and Gordon being at the back would have only suffered a shock of the accident, looks at the rear carage u start in and compare it to those that were infront, exactly.

Funny how it doesn't bother you that Gordon survived. Sure, he has the HEV suit, but it doesn't make a difference against such a huge force.

Well, if Breen can survive an explosion at the top of the citadel, then why couldnt Gordon and Alyx survive whatever that bluewhite portal force was.

Gordon is down to 47 health and his suit is drained after the crash.

Yeah, and considering he didn't exactly have a fully charged suit when he left City 17 in the first place (unless you cheated or are insanely good at avoiding the Strider's fire while climbing up that ladder at the end), I wouldn't say that he sustained that much damage in the crash.

For example, when I last completed EP1 I had 92 health and no suit charge when I boarded the train, meaning Gordon only lost 20 HP in the crash.

Well you can't really go by what you had in the Ep 1 previous. Also when you first come to you hear a beeping sound indicating that you had lost life. The only purpose of this is to convey that the crash has ****ed Gordon up a bit. Alyx however, is just dandy.

Consider that I had 14 health left at the end of EP1. I actually gained health through the crash.
