How far have you guys made it with Dog's ball?

I've managed to get it into the Nova Prospsekt base, right after fighting those two gunships. I thought that was as far as you could go because of an invisible barrier, and the ball went right through the ceiling of the room right after those two fire spots with the handles to turn them off (after entering the building through a hole one of the gunsips makes), but as it turns out when the ceiling comes crashing down the ball makes it to the other side. I've managed to come this far and want to see how far I can take this.

How far have you guys made it to? O.O
 
I would have thought it's categorically impossible to take it further than Entanglement (due to the teleport which more than likely only takes the player with it), but i've never heard of anyone getting further than Nova Prospekt... I Myself have never taken it further than the trolley just before you finally meet Grigori.
 
Dog's ball is 'Depth-Sensitive', it only explodes after going a certain distance underwater, on the mine area with the big fall and water part, just use the gravity gun, pick the ball up, and then jump down while looking straight up and holding (A), for the Xbox version anyway, forgot what it is for PC. Gordan has massive leg muscles you see. After that you carefully meneuver the ball near the top of the cave while underwater, once you exit you make sure not to touch the ball with the tounge of the monster at the end, it freezes the games.

After that, just keep going, if you guys get stuck at a invisible wall or something just ask me and I'll tell you how to pass it =)

also the mine sticks to the car like a regular rollermine, so all you have to do is hop in and it will stick, and if you specifically want to place it somewhere, just use the gravity gun to put it on top of the car or something and get into the car as fast as possible. I like to think of the ball as a pet, follows me around all over the place. You will have a bit of a hard time with the antlion levels though, as they find the ball a bigger threat than the combine soldiers.

I myself, never stole the ball, I said simply, "If I can't have it, no one can!!!" And hucked it... over... the cliff... at Black Mesa East... It MIGHT have made it onto the helicopter and flew to the Citidael, where it got shot into orbit by the explosion... perhaps we'll see it in EP2???
 
omg I loled hard at the zombies attacking the ball.
 
well, the ball kept exploding no matter how hard i tried to keep it alive. always died from an explosion in ravenholm. although, it has done amazing stuff..

Though it was too long ago to remember where I had to leave it behind. Yes you can get it past the elevator to gregori, yes you can take it with you through the water. I really can't remember where you couldn't.
 
When ever I got Dog's ball, I'd always shoot it over the cliff thing surrounding the junk yard.

Also a glitch, there's a cable right after the airlock when Alyx is running to help her father, it breaks off in the room that connects to the tunnel that goes through Ravenholm, it breaks off after a little explosion on the top right corner. It doesn't have any 'length' set, so you can carry the cable where ever you want without it breaking. It's not possible to pull it into ravenholm though because of loading.

Nothing like that. Back then I was a huge noob and didn't know about either hl2's own screenshot function or jpeg compression. But as much as I was noob back then I am now not.
 
The ball kept exploding whenever I launched it at someone. I just gave up on in a few minutes into Ravenholm.

Anyone ever have one of those vibrating, multi-coloured, pointy balls as a child. They sort of rolled/bounced around on their own.
This reminds me of those.

Since seeing the rollermines, that's what they've reminded me of too.
 
I got it to a room overlooking one of the shower rooms in Nova Prospekt. It's impossible to bring it any further because of a barrier.
 
How did you get it past Ravenholm? Isn't the mine all flooded up?

It will only explode when submerged for a few feet. You have to do a very tricky move to stop it exploding. Grab it with the gravity gun, then jump down the shaft. When you are about to hit the water, shoot the ball upwards at an angle to hit the edge of the shaft (If you shoot it straight upwards it will be falling too fast when it comes back down). When you hit the water quickly swim back up to the surface and try to catch the ball. When the ball is secured you can swim it through the water as long as you keep it held at the top of the tunnel (So that it is not too deeply submerged). Enjoy dragging it along the coast :)
 
Well that's a nice trick. But you have to walk along the coast, right? There's no storage place on the buggy!

Just stick it on the buggy, it attaches like a normal rollermine. :thumbs:
 
no way at all, my rollermine kept plugging off my buggy and attacking the stupid antlions..

OH CRAP!!! ANTLIONS!!! Dammit, okay, just avoid them. *Swirve rights, swirve left* Okay, I think they're gone *looks back, sees rollermine in distance*

I don't remember my rollermine popping off to attack antlions. The real trouble though is how it affects your centre of gravity. It can make the jumps and some of the turns awful.
 
hm.. i didnt expect to see a thread like this when i visited after like years..
I tried doing this years ago with like my second time ever playing the game, and I managed to get it into that Nova Prospekt base all the way at the end until the Ant Lion Warrior where you drop down through the hole in the window to fight the Ant Lion Warrior. Though there was an invisible wall which you couldn't take the ball through. In all the previous cases, there were ways to throw the ball around it, but not this one as far as i could tell.. Although, I did try to shoot it through other openings in the ceiling, but didn't know where to shoot it.
cool to see other people try it as well.
 
I only took it as far as Ravenholm. Most of the time I just punted it through the basketball hoop and left it at that.
 
and wat bout when ur in the kart u cant av the ball den lol.
 
the kart at the end of ravenholm? you can toss the ball from the ground on the street up and over the invisible wall there.
 
How bout the forcible swimming bits at the end of Ravenholm?

oh btw, sry to go off topic, but i really am yearning for a good new thread with some interesting info, pics or vids on hl2 or ep1 or ep2.. really the past two weeks have been a bore.. in this hl2 forums section..
