How long will HL2 be?

New guy here . . . I've done a search through the forums and couldn't find an answer to my question, so I thought I'd ask. Apologies if this is something that's been discussed before.

I'm wondering just how long HL2 is going to be? Both in terms of the number of "levels", and the number of hours required to complete the game. Any word about that, or even a guess?

I remember a while back hearing rumors about how Valve might cut out content in order to get the game done sooner. I hope that didn't turn out to be true.

I actually hope HL2 is at least as long as HL1, or even longer. HL1 was a long game, and takes days to complete if you took your time to explore all the levels carefully.

Gabe Newell said in an interview I read somewhere that Half-Life 2 will be 3-4 hours long per chapter( 12 in total), so perhaps around 36 depending on how good you are.
Oh, and P.S, due to my 1337(I said 1337!:O)
I can beat the game in 5 minutes even if I was forced to walk in the entire game.

The main factor in HL2's longness is the fact that you could go around knocking over everything, and savoring every moment of gameplay.

S'gonna be fun.

didnt doug say it was about the same length. Although you can arse about abit, play with corpses if thats your kind of thing, so it could take a while. That crane on the E3 demo as well, could have quite abit of fun with that.

From what ive heard so far, its gonna be at least 36-48 hours of play, which is 1 and a half day - 2 days.

I think HL is about 20+ hours (if im not wrong)

Not if the walking speed is anything like Unreal 2's. My God, that was some slow moving.

The game is going to be extremely long for people like me, who like to play around with the physics. I do that in Far Cry once in a while, but HL2 will be a much larger treat. Oh gravity gun, manipulator, where art thou? This is what a FPS always needed, yet it's been over a decade, and you finally appear.

HL2 should take a decent chunk of time for me the first time 'round, I'd say about 30 hours, maybe. I don't want to rush the game after waiting for so long!.

first time through i like to explore every nook and cranny and talk to every single NPC before moving onto the next part.. that usually means it takes me quite abit of extra time to complete the game

im hoping HL2 has 36+ hours of game play..

I'm all for quality first - quantity second....

Who would have been happy if Crytek had chopped off those last few LAME levels and left us on a knife edge in Far Cry?? Would have been a much better game for it I reckon.

So, if HL2 is short (Which I fully expect it to be) I don't really care that much. The third installment wont take half as long for Valve to make (Its probably in the works as we speak)

Yeah, I'll be probably doing the same as everyone else here . . . taking my time to drink in all the goodness that HL2 has to offer. The "Graphics, Believable Characters, Intelligent AI, Physics, and Deep Storyline" (c) and TM.

I'll probably just spend days smashing Combine soldiers over the head with large crates, using the manipulator. Or spinning those saw blades through Zombies.

But if the expected average gameplay time is supposed to be around 40 hours, then that's awesome. That means it'll be about the same length as say . . . NOLF? Hehehe.

well it does depend on how long you take to play a game. ill probably play on hardest setting just to have a better experiance, i doubt ill inspect every little thing. leave somin that i might discover 2nd time through.

I said before doug said about same time as HL2 although there is all the phsyics and stuff which you will probably arse about with so it will infact take longer. I think the time scale is ment to be the same though not sure what it is though. 3 days or somin, i mean as in the story in HL2 takes place over 3 days as does HL. If im right in 3 days.

I think one of the good things about HL1 was it was a pretty long game (all things considered for that genre)..so I think HL2 will be slightly longer or at worst about the same.

30-40 hours. this is the best game in the world. for most game i can play for hours, but the fun factor decreases. with hl2 i like to limit my playtime, so i can get the most out of it, usually 1 and a half hours each session. anyway, messing around with the objects and crowbaring people is pretty fun. bet you were all looking at alyx when she climbed that ladder, hahahaha, right in front of her dad!!

Nope. Most people who have rushed did it under 18 hours. I explored loads, and got 18 hours.
