Well, I was playing doom 3 demo the otherday. Although using software bump mapping (I have a geforce 4mx 440, work with me), it was still playable. The frame rate increased when bumpmapping was switched off.

So if valve say that the source engine is scaleable, the game should run at peak performance.

If the requirements is indeed
1.2GHZ, 512MB RAM, and at least direct X7 Graphics card

Everything should be fine, I have
AMD 2000+XP, 768MB RAM and a GeForce4MX440 (at least a directX7)

Not exactly the beefiest system but has bee through a lot

You will be running at DirectX 7 visuals, which won't look as good as the e3 2004 Bink videos but at least it will be playable. Just remember that Half-life 2 runs better on ATI Radeon cards, so saving up for one should be a good idea.

It should be playable, im pretty sure doom 3 is more of a bitch for graphics cards the half life 2. and the rest of your system is fine. if you do want to upgrade then a new graphics card will be only thing you need to get half-life 2 looking real good aswell.

You'll be fine, don't sweat it man. I know you're gettin' nervous, but just keep on truckin'! ;)

I agree, but I would have to upgrade my motherboard to take full advantage of 8X AGP graphics cards (I've got a 4X AGP slot at the moment ;( )

Mate don't worry - it wont look as "impressive" as DX 8/9 but all of the main game components are there :-)
