I realise the leak... (SPOILERS!!)

Weapons:

Weapons are probably a lot quicker to develop than entire monsters and it seems that at one stage Valve created huge numbers of stupid weapons either for testing or fun. Most of these in the leak are not well developed so the models are placeholders or unskinned. I'll try to list them in rough order of interest.

Physgun (uses pistol model) - everyone wants the chance to play with this fun little toy and luckily it is no longer necessary to use the buggy and crash prone beta implementation of it. Go download jb/garrysmod.

Sniper rifle - a fully skinned sniper rifle, I can't tell if its based off any real-world gun or not. It works in the game, and you can zoom as you would expect it to.

Gauss gun - Fully modeled skinned and working, looks similar to the buggy mounted gun. I'd like to see this weapon reintroduced to deathmatch.

Heavy machine gun - a m60/m249 ish weapon with a slightly rubbish skin.

Irifle - Looks exactly like the OPR but fires flares that ignite people.

Ice axe - A fully skinned ice axe, works in game.

Guard gun - model is done but skin is not, fires a spiky green electricity beam that sets things on fire.

Stun baton - you will see this soon in DM anyway.

Flame thrower - there is an unskinned 1st person model for the cremator's flame thrower but I don't think yo could use it in game.

OICW - pretty much the MP7 with zoom and a different model.

Slam - I think this is supposed to be a detpack, you can use it in game but it uses some unidentifiable placeholder model. Soon it will be in DM so you can find out exactly what it was supposed to be.

ak47 - errrhhmm, lets see how many weapons we can rip from counterstrike :)

Missile launcher - just a slightly different model from the RPG you know.

Weapons with models but don't seemt to do anything in game - binoculars, flaregun, fire extinguisher, cremator's head (lol wtf), headcrab (yes, he's holding a cute little fast headcrab in his hand).

Brickbat, molotov, bottle, manhack - weapons with only placeholder models that don't seem to do anything in game either.
Damn... so many weapons have been removed than I have thought... anyway, you said that some weapons can be used in-game... how can you summon it? or can it only be used through a mod?

Hydra - I didn't manage to load the e3 maps without the game crashing but I belive the hydra is in there and basically just does the scripted thing you see in the videos.

Apparently npc_hydra had working AI in the beta, use the Beta Hammer to make a small box, but the Hydra in it, put nodes in it, put barney in it, and watch it skewer barney :).

Hmm Beta Hammer wouldnt work for me, said missing textures.wad, made my own then got some "Windows could not find file" when compiling. Tried to make a plain area with all the monsters and weapons to see it all together.

someone shoule decompi8le leaked maps and put them on the net

Theyr'e all over the place, actually.

But if you want the job done, why don't you just do it yourself. :P

Does any 1 know if there is a page with screenshots of the levels/ models they cut out like the icebreaker etc?

One thing that you guys need to consider is, Valve is not done. There were some amazing things like the Hydra, and mabey they wanted to save those for expansions. If the expansions were just half life 2 as a different character it would be ... meh... If they through in some of the things we were all really excited about and had waited for it would be... IM GOING TO BUY THAT! you see?

I never knew the leak included so much material which was never released.. That's it. I'm getting the leak. I already gave them my money anyway.

Edit: You know I can't read russian. How do I install support for it? (Since IE didn't ask me...)

With the hydra they could have put it on highway 17 when you were driving along the water. It could have come from the sea and blocked your path, where as then you had to find a samari sword and chop it in two. Or else when you are in the sewers and you see that damn thing snaking through the tunnels; that would be cool as anything in the game.

Babel fish, if you cant read the crappy translations it's your problem

My idea for the hydra is for each "head" to act independantly and grow realy long and weave through corridors. I know, unnecicarily complicated, but it would be cool.

It's so unfinished and unstable. It crashes at random. If there are too many physics calculations, it restarts your computer. Pretty much every map is either very unfinished or doesn't work at all. The leak that I have has only 3 working E3 maps: The techdemo with the pachinko machine, the shader test (CS:S Video Stress Test -- same exact thing), and Kleiner's lab. There are a lot of interesting unfinished maps like Eli's lab that is all orange. Also, a level of the Borealis works. A lot of the maps made it into the final such as the big bridge on coast, the first encounter with the helicopter on Route Kanal, a rough concept of the trainstation, and the attic in the apartment buildings at the beggining of the game.

You can also play with the weapons, but they weren't really that great. Except for hopwire, that's the coolest. The manipulator doesn't have a firm grip on objects, they move around and don't fly in the proper direction or trajectory sometimes. You can pick things up with your hands, but you can't throw them, only drop them.

Wow nice find Firecrack.

OK today I made a test map with the beta and tried out all the interesting monsters I could find in the fgd file. The results were pretty cool, turns out there is a lot more working stuff in there than I had seen walking around the existing maps. Most of the monsters I tried would not do very much. This is a list of the beta monsters that I didn't already cover in my previous post (like the stalker and bullsquid), and actually did anything interesting when I tested them out.

Hydra - the ai actually works and it is quite impressive. The tentacle for the most part moves fluidly, it extends itself out in a very lifelike way to try and spear you.

Combine guard - this dude looks badass and it turns out he is. The effect for the gun firing is a bit messed up and hard to describe. As it charges up you see the surroundings distort with heat haze sort of effect. Then there is a flash of energy on the ground and it fires a short fast white tracer. Only about 1 or 2 shots will kill you.

Assassin - another really cool monster that I wish had made it in the game. Fires akimbo uzi like weapons (you can see the shape of the weapons but they are unskinned). They don't seem to do any damage to you tho lol. Up close it will kick you in the face. Somersaults as it moves around etc just like hl1 assassin.

Antlion grub - just crawls around until you to kill it.

Ichthyosaur - I made a pool of water and put one of these in it. However it would only bite you if you came up close, and it would not move. Tho this is probably because I did not bother to put any ai nodes in.

Vortigaunt - they WILL ATTACK enemies (your enemies) they come across. Attack looks like in HL1 green lightning but with a different sound. Actually now I think about it you did see it in HL2, when you get the bugbait from the antlion guard.

Combine helicopter - uses a different model that looks far more like a conventional copter. Fires a conventional machine gun. I actually saw this a long time ago when I first played the beta, its on a few canal levels.

Question for Samus: did you actually get the cremator working in game or read about it somewhere?

the vortigaunts work in the final version and attack enemies too, and so do stalkers (but dont kill them, it MIGHT crash your pc)

npc_create npc_vortigaunt
npc_create npc_stalker

Err, thund, are you saying you only saw the Vortiguants once in HL2?

I really really hope you're not serious.

Damn. I knew they cut out a lot of things, but I didn't realize it was THAT much! Some stuff I didn't even know existed until now. Sand Barnacle? Zombie Assassin?

Please vavlve release the unused media!

I'l do favours...

sexual favours :naughty:

Say, does anyone know what on earth the belly cannon of the gunship used to shoot?

It still does, if you spawn one using "give npc_combinegunship". Then get near it.

Neat, i wonder why it never does this normally in single player.
