I'm not sure if I'm right, and I don't know why I was thinking about this, but here it goes...

it is 33.33 + 1/3 and 1/2 of a third

I don't know, but atleast it's something...

I think what you are trying to say is 33.333...*3=100

100/3 = 33.333...

Or 33 + 1/3, which is less than 33.33 + 1/3 + 1/6

o.O Maybe 33.333...*3 = 100

Um...1/3 of 100 is just 33.333 repeating. What you just typed does not equal 33.333 repeating :|
Did I miss something? This better not have anything to do with .999 = 1 :frown:

No, it doesnt have anything to do with 0.999.. = 1, but technically 33.3333... isnt 1\3 of 100 it is just 33.333....333.....3......3333..... and a bunch of threes... not 1\3 of 100..

If it's less than 33.33... then it doesn't work...

1/3 of 1 is .333...
1/3 of 10 is 3.333...
1/3 of 100 is 33.333...
If it's less than 33.33... then it doesn't work...

33.333... is less than 33.83, which is what you typed adds up to.

1/3 of a hundred is.... 1/3 x 100.

I win.

...

(1/3) = .33...
That is, one third equals point three recurring. They teach you this in remedial third grade arithmetic. It's called long division.

Ergo:
100*(1/3) = (100/3) = 33.33...
One third of one hundred equals thirty-three point three recurring by the Multiplicative Property of Equality.

You're wrong. If you want to make a mathematical statement, PROOF is everything.

100 / 3 = 33.3333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333....... and so on and so forth.

33.333333333333..... * 3 = 100 because 33.333... = 100/3 and 100/3 * 3 = 100.

FINALLY! WE HATH ENLIGHTENED HIM!

Woohoo! :D

I can't argue with numbers about numbers, it just doesn't work that way.

It's funny, because the only way I understand it is the way numbers explains it.. :\

Since 33.333... is a number, we can conceive the concepts only by numeral method, or proof.

Wrong forum...

This is an entirely different thing!

Just use something other than denary to do it, and your problems will be resolved.

Why do programmers confuse Halloween and Christmas? Because Dec 25 = Oct 31.

Only if the base is itself divisible by 3. :P Otherwise you still get the recurring three.
