Is it possible for images above a certain resolution to be resized and a link put to their location to view the original? It bugs me that some images stretch my entire screen.

Thanks.

Pfft, get a bigger monitor.

Or resize them and host them youself and stop expecting the site to do it for you. Or just link to the images rather than embedding them.

I thought HL2.net was capable of thumbnails. I may be wrong. I appear to be wrong.

I believe imageshack produces thumbnails for you.

I thought that the latest vBulletin update for HL2.net fixed this issue?

Exhibits A & B, see how the larger image in the top post doesn't screw up the size of the next, text only post (yours in fact).

Possibly the most confusing screenshot ever taken Operational... congrats.

Anyhow, if you have firefox, just right-click - view image - then you can zoom in/out.

And like Operational says, it doesn't mess up any other post apart from the post the image was in, so no to resizing.

There's a really nice auto-image-resize feature at another forum I go to. Any image larger than a certain resolution is scaled down to the max resolution allowed and is a link to the full size pic. Very nice.

That's exactly what I was referring to in the OP.

If you upload pictures to your profile thing they resize to a certain... uh, size. But I don't think that's what you're talking about?

No, I mean when somebody posts an image and if it's bigger than a certain resolution, it's resized automatically.

And I don't want this because it's easier for me to post images, but because it annoys me that other people stretch my screen.

But posting a large image doesn't stretch the screen, posts are still readable no matter how big an image is posted. Unless you're only talking about having the horizontal scroll bar, but that seems really trivial.

Trivial? It's really annoying, especially if it's a long post.

:|

It's not as bad as it used to be, when the whole page of posts would stretch because someone posted a large image. That was annoying this seems to me like much ado about nothing - it's not often that people post large images and when they do it's rare that they also have a lot of text to go with it.

As mentioned, buy yourself a 24" monitor, and pray that no-one posts a screenshot of their 30" desktop.

This sounds like a good system. However, would it be feasible for Hl2.net?

imo, leave things the way they are

Isn't there some rule that if the image is too large, it should be in spoiler tags? Or is that just for Image Dump?

We're talking about a standard (from what I've heard) vBulletin feature, that only needs to be enabled, correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, the need for the user to determine if a picture is relatively "large" disappears.

Thats only when the poster is considerate enough to do that for the sakes of others. I try to do it usually, but i forget to sometimes.

So If I post a 1600x1200 image here, that would be pretty funny huh.

:>

Or you could post a 1920000x1 image for twelve hundred times more evil with the same image kilobyte size.
