I've played Half-Life to death

Honestly, I've played this game so often (going through it fully again for the first time since HL2) that I no longer find it enjoyable.

Almost every aspect of the game has dwindled in my eyes, from the level construction (now seemingly very simple to me) to the NME AI (average at best, even the ninjas). Also, the limited lighting and textures also show themselves up, and there seem to be more graphical bugs than ever before, like z-fighting and so forth. Even Black Mesa has lost its appeal, now the graphics have dated so badly.

And why does Gordon wear roller skates!? From the amount of drift after you release the keys it's like he's oiled them!

There was a recent poll on which HL was better, and I voted for HL1. I'm now beginning to reconsider, and also, once I've played my way through to Xen once more, I'm probably going to bin the CD.

Well, HL has given me many years of pleasure, mainly through TFC and CS, but now I have CS:CZ it doesn't matter so much, as I'd rather play multiplayer stuff instead, or with bots.

Aagh! I don't know what to do!

Obviously Halflife was a great game, if you've played it so much. Your logic could be applied to any game. What do you expect playing a game countless times? And Halflife was made 7 years ago too!

Man, I'm glad I'm not yet spoiled by graphics and retro-level design.

I was just wondering, what do all of you do with your old games once you get tired of them? Give them to others, or let them collect dust?

I've done so with Quake, Quake 2 and Unreal, as I played them extensively too.

On the other hand, I have Counter-Strike as I said, and with multiplayer and bots I could always play that and find new stuff - same with Quake 3 Arena, what with people still producing maps to this day.

Looks like the life of a single-player game is so limited.

I sell my singleplayer games when im tired of them, or if it's a "beat it once" game...

In special cases i keep games such as max payne 2, medal of honor (AA, SH, BT) i still have half-life btw...so basicly i keep the games i liked when playing them, they're always a replay worth in a year or so.

I've never gotten rid of a multiplayer game yet, exept one (battlefield vietnam) which i sold.

Still playing call of duty mp  and atm im playing bf2

You say that now, but a few months after Aftermath comes out and you're sick of playing that you'll look back on Half-Life 2.......

yada yada

If I get bored of something, I leave until the day I won't find it boring.

Same here. After a time you have a cyclus of things that you find enjoyable again :)

I never get rid of games, because there'll always be a time, somewhere down the line, when I'll feel like playing them again.

I usally don't get rid of PC Games, but console games can be traded in for money or store credit at EB Games.

This is where mods come in my friend, try something new. Like yesterday, I was bored and downloaded an HL1 mod called The Ship, and I thought it was pretty cool.

How about making your own mod for HL? I saw a tutorial for that in a magazine once...one of these days I'm-a gonna make me one. :-D

You've played Half-Life many times... It's like watching a movie many times. Sooner or later you get bored, even your favorite scene becomes dull.

As for my games, I have a whole shelf of games, because I never get rid of them. Because all of my games are either modable (I mod a bit, and I download mods) and/or have a good MP.

i just wait along time intil i forget about stuff that happened then play it again

Whenever I start to get bored with or sick of a game I play around with mods and attempt at modding my own game just for my own amusement. I love how you can do quite a bit with HL2 in order to make it more of a challenge in some areas and a breeze in others (maps or monsters you don't like etc.). Once I get sick of doing that I uninstall it and shelve the game for a while before eventually coming back to it. I'm currently having my second wind (so to speak) with HL2 after letting it sit idle for 6 months or so and I'm loving it again.

If it's a single player gam,e then I know I wont find enough enjoyment out of it, so I d/l it. if I like it alot, then I buy it.

All in all, you are bored with HL because some stuff...that's nice..move on to another game, shit happens

I've played...Half-Life to...the...death....

/me dies

Is it true I'll need HL if I want to play TFC? If so, I'll keep the CD, as I luurve TFC!

No because you keep double posting to bump your thread. That = bad.

If you play somthing over and over again you get to know how it works so HL1's AI isnt bad, its just that you've worked out exactly what the bad guys are gunna do before they do it. kinda like that guy I know who takes bets on how long it'll take him to complete blue shift (current record is somewhere around 1 hour). Its just dull when you can run through a level knowing exactly where the enemies spawn and simply do *head shot, turn corner, head shot*.

It's not that most games AI is bad it's that it has only a cirtain number of ways to react to a situation and you can work them out and what triggers them. For instance on the strike force mod for UT I can predict the bot perfectly because I know their pattern. it's especially bad on SP games with set levels when you know that that enemy will be there and he will be armed with that gun so the best way to deal with him is to do *insert plan here*.

Not as bad on games like quake 3 or UT because the enemy have such a huge space, large number of weapons and differnt personalities to work with, but even then you can quickly work out 'patrol routes' and camping spots that cover/take you through the level's 'hot' areas so you can rack up loads of kills. bassicly, if you do somthing over and over again you become an expert at it and know exactly what to do and how to react.

The moral of the story is not to play the same game over and over again so you know exactly what'll happen, play through it and then leave it until you forget bits. I do that far too much though and never get rid of games. I mean I've still got a copy of panzer general sitting in my CD rack because i want to play it some times. Not that i've ever actually completed it before ive got too frustrated with it and gumpily uninstalled it to be repaced with something more up close and killy.

Geeze no need to write a f****** lecture now was there ......
Me personally i only trade in a PC game if it is extremely bad, gameplay, graphical and story-line bad other then that mine stay on my shelf in front of me, console games however i am constantly trading in one month then buying back the next.

I never played HL until after I played HL2, and it was sooo boring and lame to today's standards. But then again you have to remember that once Pac-Man was amazing. It actually had color! Turbo graphics!

I played the whole original series; HL, OP:For, and Blue Shift... it was decent, but the main killer was the puzzles and the fact that you move like 50 million miles per hour and can't even stand in the spot you want without overshooting.

It's like a good marriage. Sometimes you have to drift apart and allow each other some room and find new methods and remember old reasons to rekindle your passion.

I am in no way sick of halflife 2. I will only stop playing it when I wake up one day and hunt down people who I suspect of being combine. Perhaps its already started....

Your dead to me.

Anyways, check your settings. HL defaults to some pretty bad settings, so you may have just had it at low settings. Something tells me, you just weren't simply playing the game.

And then go sexx0r another woman. Err, game.

Why complain about HL1?? its ~7 years old!!

Thats like saying "Well, I used to enjoy doom... but now I notice the graphics are all pixelated, and the enemy AI just runs towards me... AND THERES NO PHYSICS ENGINE!!"
