This is my first map, I haven't found a place to upload it. so if you know a good one i will and i will put the link here.
Excuse the Black that would be my video card, it won't look that

Why oh why did you make this? another killbox to throw onto the rotten heap I suppose.

Killboxes are all of terrible design and run poorly.
 
I just calledd it Killbox because i'm not creative, and remeber this is my first map
 
So? My first map was no masterpiece, but it wasn't mindless killbox shit.
 
seriously, it pays off more to spend alot of time on a decent first map, then to put out some crap that will get your map creating rep low before you even make an official map, and thats not a good thing.
 
not to sound like a troll, but yeah this is utter and complete crap.


i know it is tempting to show off your hard work and try to get some recognition, but if you show off too early people think you suck lol.
 
I wasn't saying it was a master piece but just trry it once i upload it.
and it maybe crap but its my crap.
 
I guess it's not a big deal for you if we say it's crap because you couldn't have spent much time on it. 30 minutes maybe? This is not a map. It's a hollowed cube with smaller cubes in the air to walk on.
 
Obviously you didn't look at the map, This is the map where I learned some different things, and no it isn't a big deal because i wasn't expecting it to be big, it was just something I made
 
I enjoyed the original killbox on HL1..

This one, though, just puts the box in killbox..Too much metal everywhere..

But honestly, why such harsh criticisms on maps? There aren't many servers that even run good maps. I played a server that had 6 junk maps in a row earlier today. All were a lot worse than mine. I'll admit that I don't add many textures or detailed models, but at least I connect the rooms and tunnels in unique ways, and have some secret spots.

But yeah, enough with fullbright maps.
 
you people are to harsh on a stupid map, if you dont like just dont reply. i'm working on a more textured and more exciting map....and no it won't be another box
 
Okay, here's what needs fixin':

Fullbright = NO.
Fullbright should never be used in any map ever.
Unless that map takes place inside the sun, in which case fullbright should still not be used because it would not be bright enough.

More than one room.
No map should consist of only one room, unless that map is outdoors.
Even if the map is outdoors, it needs enough obstacles/cover to create the illusion of being at least four different rooms.

Actual architecture/terrain.
Actually having building(s) that look like building(s) does a lot for your credibility. if there are no buildings make sure the trees, rocks and/or other look like their counterparts. Even if the map is poorly balanced and has bad weapon placement, the very least it should be is a plausible/asthetically pleasing environment.
Note: Balance does not mean symmetry! In fact, the less symetrical, the better.

Make sure your map has good balance and weapon placement!
You should always have good balance and well-placed weapons. Even the most average map can become a classic if it's set up well.
That means ensuring that no matter where you spawn, you are never put at an advantage/disadvantage compared to other spawns.
It also means that the best weapons are harder to get than the better weapons, but not so hard to get as to be ignored entirely.
People stuck with the manipulator should have an adequate supply of objects, while every other weapon should be able to get to the required ammo in under a minute a minute of unobstructed jogging.

If you have all that stuff, you can add special features like button triggers and physics-based traps, or just start the beta.
then, after a good amount of beta testing, and fixing any/all problems you find within, you can release an actual finished product.
 
I don't think lighting would have done much for his map, or my map, or any map that doesn't look like a real place. Realism won't affect the fact that you are simply killing each other repeatedly.
 
Now that Mechagodzilla's mentioned it, a map taking place within the sun would be fairly interesting. :D
 
Mechagodzilla, Thanks for the advise, I don't know what you mean by fullbright so that is probably why it's there, I will rememeber all this for my next map that will be better look and hopefully more fun
 
Fullbright is exactly that: you map is at full bright, lights at the max everywhere. This happens when you don't place light entities on your map.

but yeah.. it needs some shadows and... stuff
