Community Update - 1/18/06

Listen up Soldiers!

By now, you have all seen the list of fixes in the next update (1.2). We are still trying to nail down a few final items and put the final touches in place.

Here's a list of additional items to look for in version 1.2:

* UAVs are now visible in the world so if you are being scanned, you can know about it and take action against it.
* Rank progression is no longer limited to the enlisted ranks. All officer ranks are now available.
* Bug that allowed players in vehicles to contest a flag from outside the flag radius is now fixed.

I’d also like to take this opportunity to clarify some confusion stemming from our updates.

The first item is on the topic of grenades. Players will still be able to toss grenades while jumping. Although the ability to fire while jumping has been removed, players will still be able to initiate a grenade toss prior to jumping and follow through with the toss, thereby gaining themselves some extra distance. We understand that there will be some adjustment in tactics required when the patch comes out but we are confident that the community will quickly come to grips with the new tactics.

The second item is on the topic of the booster packs. We have not created the maps as a separate expansion pack requiring a separate server. The booster packs will increase the content of the base game and thereby may be run on a server in regular rotation with the original maps.

The 1.2 changes are good though, if they are actually implicated.
I dont want them to promise a whole lot and then not do it. Id rather have just the things they did do.

that's pretty cool ...I wonder how low flying and slow they'll be? can it only be taken out by AA?
 
there's a vid of it, they sort of idle fly circles a good distance in the air while still being visible.
 
So in other words you hop in a jet and blast the mother bucker (not a missspelling)

i dont think that the uav can be locked on to - so its machine gun fire and sniper fire that will kill it - of course while you stare at the sky someone is going to popping multiple caps in your ass so its unlikely we will see many being shot down after the initial novelty factor wears off

Did I read right? No more firing while jumping!? Could this be the end of quake-style bunny hopping!? **** yes, if so!

The guns that you get with SF are either just a preference issue (like the new medic unlock - Much more accurate but less damage and only burst fire/singleshot) or they are a tad better. It's not like everybody is running around with SF weapons destroying anybody with a BF2 vanilla wep.

Oh...and PS....I DO pay for my own life. You know what they say about assumptions...they make an ass out of you and "umption". Age has nothing to do with this and neither does the fact that gamers may or may not be supporting themselves financially.
 
question about the booster pack: so if a server i visit regularly sudddenly gets the booster pack, that means when it comes to one of those maps in the booster pack, i will be kicked from the server? :frown:
imma kill someone if that happens :angry:

Why the hell should I pay for a prostitute (booster pack) when I can get a hoe (mods) for free?
 
How much exactly have v 2 pay for boost packers...?is it tat interesting...?cost does not matter,but it should be worth tat cost i think...

You do know the video that was released for the GL was just an alpha build..they still havn't finished it up yet?

If that's not what you are talking about, then wtf are you talking about lol.

It's just a ****ing ploy to get more money, God damn it all.
Sure they'll only be $10 but, You can probably get that same content for free in a mod.
 
can still chuck grenades while jumping- good, but I cant see how they will allow this without allowing the throwing of other things, such as claymores, med packs, AND C4!!!! This had better just apply to grenades (the extra distance is handy) and med/ammo packs- if ppl can still chuck C4 and bunny hop around I'll be pissed off.

I guess I was never the one who ever got mad at people who chucked *God the first time I saw an expert chucker, I was in awe...that was some awesomeness...my fault for not being able to kill him*

and Dolphine Divers. And yes, you guys are going to be all, "YOUR A DOLPHINE DIVER AND A CHUCKER YOU STUPID NEWB NO WONDER YOU LOVE THEM* but on teh contrary. I was a normal person, just like you guys. After I got down killing them pretty easy, I turned into one, so I could hopefully teach others that we are really not that hard to kill. We prone in air, ok, that means at your eye level, that's a head...just hit us, we die. We are lying down, circle strafe us. We chuck C4....god, if we have enough time to lob it out in front of you, and detonate it, you didn't aim well enough.

Anyway yeah...back to the topic I guess.
 
I like the UAV thing, now how about giving us a plane you can respawn in similar to the ac-130 in desert combat :D

No more air! As if we don't have enough to pwn us the way it is...forget planes/jets/helis...make better AA..then after you say you fix it, fix it again!

Personally, some better Stinger support would be very nice..That way those in the air aren't godly. I don't care what you say , it really doesn't take that much skill to fly well in the air and bomb ground targets. I know because I do it, and I suck at this game.

Oh well..I'll just live with doing my best to avoid the high traffic areas so I don't get bombed :P
 
That might be true if the planes didn't come back predictably at the same places (the hangars obviously). All of a sudden theres no planes and no way to get one off the ground without being blown away.

And as for dolphin divers....they're really an annoyance specially reserved for those with higher pings or worse computer. Its the same idea as bunny hopping most of the time: present a moving target so jerky and unpredictable the other guy can't land a shot.
 
When was the last time you saw Army soldier's jump and suddenly go prone in mid-air (or just plain jumping during combat)? Aside from it being ludicrous from an animation standpoint, you'd hardly expect to see any real soldiers to pull that off in combat. I understand BF2 isn't exactly the most realistic game nor is it's focus to be one, but that doesn't mean they should let people rocket-jump (ala Quake) or pull off ridiculous stunts like that.
 
Looks like from this http://www.rainestech.net/newpatchvid/patch12patchfootage.avi that UAV's will be hard to deploy among smokestacks and towers, so the commander has to be smart about where he/she's putting them.
And you can still chuck C4 by the looks- the part they show in this vid is the C4 chucking I dont like Cyberpitz, because you're right, if someone comes at straight at you with it you should be able to take them down first, but over fences/ around corners is where it is most devastating and annoying.
 
When is this patch out because that fooking F2000 GL is really getting on my tits as of recent.
 
apparently this patch is from the early alpha testing, so hopefully most of the shite in there will be fixed, eg bouncing grenades lol wtf!!
 
no bouncing grenades are definitely in - should definitely be interesting

Oh ok, well, if that's the case, I'll hopefully tell you I usually don't get all my kills that way with chucking..it's at the ones that can't aim while I'm running STRAIGHT AT THEM!. lol.

Yeah, I see how your point is valid though...nothing you can do to stop it..pretty cheesy.
