Loads and loads of problems

I've decided to try my hand at making a map or two for HL2. For the map i'm working on now I need a Combine fence to block a tunnel, however I'm not sure how to set the fence up. I have the ends of the fence but the field is throwing me..
 
Find the texture, slap it on a brush, tie the brush to an entity (func_brush)if you want more controllable properties over the fence.
Add the fence props, and you're done.

Error model

I'm making a map for halflife2 deathmatch; some of my models (i.e. models/props_c17/light_industrialbell01_on.mdl) just show up as a big "Error" model when I run the map. I made these as prop_detail entities and selected their world model from the Browse... popup; I don't get why they're not showing up!

Any tips?
 
I figured it would be a texture, however I have been unable to find the texture thus far.
 
in hammer, in the texture screen, look for "combine"... it should be there somewhere.

Props

Well from one problem into another... None of my props are showing up wqhrn I run the map. Their all fine when in the editor but when I run the game nothing shows up.
 
I can pick up weapons and items, however I am unable to swtich between the items I have picked up. So if I pick up an SMG and a crowbar hitting 1 dose not let me access the crowbar. In other words hitting 1, 2, 3 or what ever has no effect.
 
Figured this out; some models have to be prop_static rather than prop_detail. Prop_detail is apparently only for very minor things like grass and whatnot (that will be automatically disabled on a downlevel machine).

Ello,

I'm a very basic mapper, and really am only trying to learn enough to integrate my face poser scenes into maps.

Anyway, I have a problem. I've made a block room and used a logic_choreographed_scene and a trigger_once to make a scene play out.

The VCD seems to load fine and 2 actors play their sounds and actions out, but one of them only moves his head and stands in an idle position while playing his sounds. After the VCD tells him to go back to Idle, he moves again.

(I will try to have a youtube of this up soon, but I was hoping someone would have a diagnosis of this)

Lets try this then... The map loads fine and all, the only thing I noticed is that there is no HUD at all.

It sounds like you haven't put an item_suit entity anywhere in the level. You have to pick up one of those before the HUD will work, by default.

Lets see, this is the player start I've used, info_player_start.

Ok, I presume that would not allow you too switch weapons and such, I was thinking something along those lines. Sooo this is going to sound stupid, but, can the player be set up to start with the suit, or would they have to pick it up in chapter one then just keep it through other chapters?

Yes. If you actually read the tutorial I linked, it tells you how to set up the player to start with the suit.
 
Well, it says a bit about player starts, however I've yet to find anything about setting up a single player start point in that tut.
