I dont understand this what is the difference between lost coast and aftermath?
is aftermath a continuation to the story in HL2, eg do we pick up exacty where the game left off? and is lost coast just a random single player map to boast off the source engine to all the non- believers?
please straighten me out

Lost Coast is a free expansion for people with really good computers, to show off amazing technology.
Aftermath is a normal expansion you have to pay for.
In Aftermath, you play with Alyx and it takes place right after HL2.

The Lost Coast shows of HDR.

Aftermath continues the story.

I dunno, they just said it would be in AM. But it's probably gonna be a future for all source game too...

Considering they are adding HDR to halflife2 Also, I think it would be Pretty stupid and pointless not to add it when its launched...

min spec on last cost is 3.2 (Intel) 1 gig of ram and hi end gfx..

For the record, according to the Lost Coast script that turned up in some HL2 file, you play as Gordon Freeman in that as well: the fisherman bloke who tells you what's going on recognises you.

Lost Coast will introduce HDR and very high resolution textures to Source. I expect the HDR will then be rolled out to all Source games (HL2, CS:S and DOD:S), though it will become an additional 'Advanced' option in the 'Graphics' settings menu.

By the time Aftermath comes out, people will have already been playing Source games with HDR for some time, I think.

When is Lost Coast ment to be released. All I've heard is conflicting reports: A few weeks, Around E3 time, Summer Time, Next winter.

I doubt it would come out later than aftermath, but are we talking weeks or months. Or are we talking weeks in valve time ;)

Planet Half-Life claim to have emailed Doug to clear up the dates: first and foremost, Lost Coast will be shown at E3, therefore that sort of precludes it appearing before E3. He claimed that it will be available "in the summer months". I do seem to remember hearing that Lost Coast was in a playtesting state at the moment. Aftermath is due late summer.

You don't know until you actually sit down in front of the computer and play Aftermath and someone calls you Gordon.
That's my hope.

Basically every single source on Aftermath tells you that you play as Gordon. There is no debate, and there is no point in not trusting what Valve are saying again and again.
