I was wonding of any one could help me? Basicly want to record my self playing HL2, i have done it with CS back in the day but not totaly sure how its done. (bad memory) Im guessing i have to make a demo of me playing, then from that demo i go on to take a series on renders of the frames and then compile that into a video. I was wondering what the commands would be to

Start recording
Stop Recording
Open Demo - with a time slider
Take the pics of the frames - if needed to be done

Also i was wonding if there would be a way to do this with sound, because having the sound is going to be quite important.

Hmm I think to start recording it is 'record <demoname>', to stop it's just 'stop'. I'm not 100%, been a while since I've done that. Can't help you with anything else though, google?

demoui to play the demo, then host_framerate to limit the framerate at which stills are generated, then startmovie.

It automatically generates a .wav soundtrack of what you record with startmovie.

You can then use VirtualDub (which is free) to join all of the .tga files together into an avi...

Basically you open virtualdub...

Click file>open video file

Then change the 'files of type' to 'image sequence' Then pick the fist image (which will be saved at the root of the game you are playing) and it will open all the frames.

Then from there,

Choose Audio>Wav Audio> and select the wav file in the same location as the stills

You can also use the Audio>Compression Menu to setup compression for the video. You can also do the same for the video. Video>compression.

Then set the framerate in Video>Framerate to whatever you chose to limit the frames to, which was mentioned in the post above.

I'm sure somebody else knows an easier way...
