I keep getting a "Map Not found or Invalid" whenever I try to play maps I made with Hammer Editor.

I followed another complaint and they said to compile it with hammer, problem is. I don't have a compiler in Hammer.

I followed a tutorial to make my own compiler, but I'm guessing it's failing miserably.

First off, it doesn't make the .nav files that are needed, neither does it make the .res files.

It only creates the .bsp, some .wic and a bunch of .p0, .p1 and .p2 files.

If anybody can help me, that'd be great. This is the topic which had the same problem, but it didn't help.

The compiler is the button near the far right end of the top toolbar that looks like 3 white circles. I think you can also hit F9 to compile. Can you link to the tutorial to build your own compiler plz?

ok first, do you want to make maps for goldsource (half-life, counterstrike 1.6) or for source (half-life 2, counterstrike source)?

If it's goldsource I'd recommend this tutorial: http://twhl.co.za/tutorial.php?id=47
I think it is a bit more clear than the one you linked to. Also it should be noted that to map for goldsource you must be using hammer 3.4 (i.e. not the one downloaded thru steam).

If you want to map for source then you will be happy to know steam will automatically configure hammer for you. In steam launch the "source sdk" and then click on "reset game configurations".

Hope that helps, if you have any questions feel free to PM me and I'll try to walk you thru it.
