The team behind the HL2 Mod Mario Kart Source released a video of the work.

Despite having high hopes for this mod, I'm vaguely disappointed.
 

It felt dragged out like they were trying to compensate for the fact that it ONLY showed off 2 levels.

Yeah the characters look nice, yeah the carts look nice, but anyone who has been following the mod knows that. Yeah the physics are pretty, but anyone who played HL2 and isn't a moron knows that.

It was almost 3 minutes of just two carts driving around. They didn't incorporate the hud, or weapons, or balloons. You didn't even see another character.
 
It's a god damn mod holy **** stop being so ****ing critical!
 
Looks very nice. If they nail down the Mario Kart "feel" this is a win!

Wow, calm down. I didn't say anyone's family was a failure or anything. If you read my posts, I DO have high hopes for this mod. I just expected a bit more out of the trailer.

That's true. I just have a tendency to think that if you're going to make a video, it should actually showcase a bit more than you've even got done. If they'd hacked in the HUD or item boxes or balloons or something, I'd have been a bit happier.
 
Yeah the trailer could have included a bit more, it showed off the physics slightly but physics are the last thing I notice in a Mario Kart game, I noticed it still had the crosshair and health bar from HL2....why? You're not supposed to have those things in MK games? Weapons are on;y meant to impede you not destroy you. If you are gonna include some Half Life stuff and change the gameplay completly, then at least include some weapons, here's a list of possibilities:


Toad=Pulse Rifle
Peach=Mushroom pheropod (used for commanding armies of Mushroom people)
Mario=Crowbar
Wario=SMG
Yoshi=Pistol (it's beats eggs)
Bowser=RPG
Luigi=Gravity Gun
Koopa=Sniper Crossbow
Robot=Shotgun
Shy Guy=Grenades
Waluigi=Snarks

Mario looks odd with a "normal head", someone should resize it.
 
Very faithful recreation of the classic N64 battle maps. And the models look good too. Good job. But ...

We're talking Nintendo IP here. Best of luck avoiding the inevitable, or else have some knock-off characters, stages, and mod name ideas handy.

Who wouldn't want to drive Gordon in the buggy? A combine soldier in the APC, Breen in the...Breenmobile?

Ok but only if we can have a big headcrab with wheels on it's feet.

I hope that's menu music and not used in game. It's REALLY boring.
Mario looks like he went back to 1989.
 
it looks good, but doesn't do much for the gaming community. I could play mario kart right now if i was so inclined.
 
The player view doesn't seem right, it should be a fixed angle, where you look is where the car turns, like the camera is on a pole attached to the cart. If you get me. :|

The video was in some sort of spec mode. :rolleyes:
