MMOut of Control!

there is a happy medium:

Age of Conan

for the first 20 levels it's a single player offline game but after that it's a MMO. So for $50 you get a single player game + mp (pay per month). It has a few twists: Oblivion like combat, controllable bots that allow for formations, player made cities and seige weapons

Guild wars isn't really free, they get your money through expansions (similar to the Sims series and it's many many expansions) it's been said a couple of times in various articles.

or atleast thats what I remember reading.
I don’t know about that since I haven’t played Guild wars. If their releases are structured in such a way you have to get them to be competitive in PVP, then I disagree with that methodology. However releasing additional content seems like reasonable way of earning money, unlike $15/month to JUST play.

Guild wars is a lot more casual...at the beginning. Then you get into PvP where it slaps you in the face, it becomes so damn strategic (but strangely still accessable). And yes, you can pick it up and play (I played for 5 minutes I think and got a quest done, I felt pretty proud afterwards :D).
That's cool. How does the PVP in guild-wars compare to WoW?

For example, classes were very limited and restricted. Skill, speed, strategy, and surprise were worth shit in PVP. There were maybe 2 or 3 (smart) play-styles or move-combos per class. Character level, Character equipment, and Character class (in that order) defines every PVP battle. And the game changes every time they buff / nerf a class - potentially making your class obsolete.
