Beirut - Scenic World

Can't believe I'm so late to the game here. I think I heard about these guys 4 years ago, listened to maybe 1 song, and then forgot about it. This is really good stuff :). And further confirms that horns in anything is awesome.

Oh baby. This is just so smooth. What a perfect collaboration.

thom yorke and four tet really don't need to be in on this release, or maybe i'm just jaded because i'm desperate for anything that's new burial.

either way, they don't really bring anything to this or at least nothing that burial couldn't of done better sampling in himself on his own, at least.

Eh, I think that Four Tet's production, which has become a whole ton stronger and more complex recently, really adds a sonic depth to Ego, a sort of vibrant analog warmth. I would understand your comment more in relation to Mirror, which is a far more skeletal, garage influenced track, but really Burial never could have pulled off anything as well-crafted as Ego by himself - I would say that the weakest track on Untrue is Raver, and that's the track most similar to this one. Four Tet really stands on his own in Ego, and I think Thom Yorke had a moderately large influence on both sides. Plus, it's Mirror that makes me desperately want some new Burial material.

i just think thom yorke and four tet are pretty mediocre in their own right, is all.

:bounce:

I think I first heard this on Californication. Kinda country, very simple, lyrics that fit any bad day you've ever had:

I love you for mentioning these guys, knut.

Good god, that outro makes me want to conquer galaxies.

you're welcome.

a record of their unreleased/older songs went live on spotify today, i much prefer some of the material on there than i do hollow realm though it's still a blinding record. can't wait to see them this summer after having missed them last summer at a gig because i was so tired and hot inside that i just had to go outside... and get bbq and beer.

Octopus Project - Truck

Seeing them in 18 hrs from now :). So checked them out in little bits and pieces over the past month. This song is fun. And looking forward to seeing the lady play theremin on some of the other songs. She is actually very very good at it.

I'm deleting posts that don't fit the criteria outlined at the beginning of this thread.

As a prerequisite of posting in this thread, you must expand upon your rating with, at the very least, a brief paragraph as to why you delegated it said rating. You must discuss, analyse, and critique – “I liked it” is not sufficient, and any posts that do not meet this criteria will be deleted.

Is the rating required, or can I still just say I liked/didn't like it and expand on why?

Fair point, I should have clarified. I don't expect (or even want) anyone to rate things, but posting a youtube video with no comment or just "this song is incredible" isn't enough.

Recently re-listened to my Proof album. Searching For Jerry Garcia is a vastly underrated Rap/Hip-Hop genre album and Proof's last one before he was shot and killed. Had this track stuck in my head since Friday. After listening to this, I got back into D12 as well. Impacting lyrics, man.

Timber Timbre -- Creep on Creepin' On

Bluesy folk-"rock" I guess? Pretty mellowed out, with the repetitive piano notes and strings and occasional sax in the mix. I don't think it's all that "creepy" but that seems to be the descriptor used in many reviews. I'd maybe go for the term "Southern gothic" (except the band's from Canada... and Southern Gothic is a literary genre, not a musical one...). I like most of the songs on here, but I probably couldn't listen to the whole album through. All the songs are the same style and too much listening would probably make me feel as if I'd just sat in chair staring at the wall with my eyes glazed over.

Anyhow, the tunes are quite good. So I recommend giving it a listen.

Nearly four years after releasing Mirrored, Battles is finally coming out with a new LP, titled Gloss Drop. Ice Cream is the first single. It reminds me of summertime, and for some reason the original Tony Hawk on N64.

Also, a little birdie told me Gloss Drop is seriously fantastic.

Mastodon - Quintessence

Read up on the synopsis of Crack the Skye.

When asked in multiple interviews Dailor said the record would tell a story dealing variously with the art aesthetics of Tsarist Russia, astral travel, out of body experiences and Stephen Hawking's theories on wormholes.[12]

"There is a paraplegic and the only way that he can go anywhere is if he astral travels. He goes out of his body, into outer space and a bit like Icarus, he goes too close to the sun, burning off the golden umbilical cord that is attached to his solar plexus. So he is in outer space and he is lost, he gets sucked into a wormhole, he ends up in the spirit realm and he talks to spirits telling them that he is not really dead. So they send him to the Russian cult, they use him in a divination and they find out his problem. They decide they are going to help him. They put his soul inside Rasputin's body. Rasputin goes to usurp the czar and he is murdered. The two souls fly out of Rasputin's body through the crack in the sky(e) and Rasputin is the wise man that is trying to lead the child home to his body because his parents have discovered him by now and think that he is dead. Rasputin needs to get him back into his body before it's too late. But they end up running into the Devil along the way and the Devil tries to steal their souls and bring them down…there are some obstacles along the way."

What.

Man, when you pasted this into steam chat I thought you were talking about Odd Future or whatever that rap group was on the Jimmy Fallon show. I tried so hard to work those lyrics into the Crack The Skye synopsis. Now I realise I am not smart :D

Ayreon - Day Three: Pain

Holy hell. I listened through all of The Human Equation last night as I was drifting off to sleep. Hearing all of the voices singing to each other over all of this amazing music was trippy as hell. Definitely recommend this. Devin Townsend's role as Rage was cool I should note.

Beady Eye - Millionaire
Great little pop song that won't get to many peoples ears because Beady Eye don't seem to want to promote their stuff outside of their official sites.

Miles Kane - Rearrange
Retro British music, much like Beady Eyes stuff, sounds great and makes a nice change from the shit normally on the Radio.

I really quite like this track. I love the tone of the song, all downtrodden, moody. Beautiful all the same. The lyrics are little philosophical life affirming diddies that I guess are a little heavy handed but I'm not ashamed to say I like what he's trying to say and he put it forward in a fun play of words.

Really great song complimented by a great video.

From their upcoming album to be released sometime this month. Their earlier two albums are really good stuff and I definitely recommend a listen. I just hope that they are a late announcement to play at Leeds, would make my summer.

On the eve of their third album, I'd love you guys to check out Wild Beasts. They easily one of the best bands coming out of the UK right now. Amazing lyricists, incredible atmosphere. Hayden and Tom's vocals counterpoint each other so well. They are definitely a band that deserves to be more popular. Their album "Two Dancers" was likely my favourite album of 2009.

Dark Suns - Grave Human Genuine

Grabbed this album after learning ex-Pain of Salvation bassist Kristoffer Gildenlöw plays on it. Was not disappointed. His presence isn't immediately obvious (he was always good at playing in the pocket anyway), but the PoS influence is. Sounds like them if they were a bit more death metal, which I'm all for.

Also a bit of a Tool influence in there, pretty apparent about 1:30 in.

Also also, like the only live performance of Maudlin ever recorded, wowie! Has Toby on vocals instead of whoever it was originally, so it's a bit rougher than on the album, but damn they still sound sharp as hell.

So White Stripes aren't together any more but whichever band Jack White is in is 90% likely to be awesome.

I especially like Raconteurs stuff and this is a classic. Saw them live at Leeds Festival one year and the energy of the crowd
was just immense! I think White's riffs are often based around "getting people going". They can be simple but I'll be damned
if they aren't effective!

Gotta love 'em.
