need help with video mode problem

umm theres a problem when i try to play Half life 2 DeathMatch, ok i clikc the icon it loads and goes back to the desktop and says a error -Failed to set video mode.This game has a minimum requirement of DirectX 7.0 compatible hardware. i need help (also it does the same thing with half life 2 and counter strike) :flame: :angry:

Whats your computer specs? and do you happen to have a Nvidia graphics card? is so try going back a couple of drivers, the new ones suck.
