need someones help with halflife 2 installment!!

i just bought a new sony vaio and halflife 2game of the year edition installed it and i couldnt restart my computer had to do it manualy load the computer and i get an error that says ERROR steam.exe (main exception) unable to load libary steam.dll then i will get a msg that says steam is already running i havent even been able to get steam to load if i try to play halflife nothing happens i click on play khalflife and nothing what can i do can someone please help me im hurting over here
