New addition to Richard Dawkins.net

Dawkins is going to kill you for that one.

I know no one has said anything like it yet in this thread, but does it annoy anyone how some people seem to see Richard Dawkins as the emperor of atheists?

I don't see him as an "emporer" but he is one of the most outspoken or perhaps even the most outspoken athiest, who raises a number of good issues.
Plus, he has an awesome accent.

If you like him piggy look up Hitchens and harris.

It is a little irritating. But until I see people subscribing to every single one of his viewpoints (scientific or not) simply because he's Richard Dawkins, I won't lose any sleep over it.

Richard Dawkins is an abysmal 'philosopher'. He has no original points, and simplifies years of philosophical debate into arrogant arguments. Good scientist though.

Well he is clearly partisan. I believe that an objective argument shouldn't have a premeditated bias.

That's the entire essence of philosophy right there.

The only premeditated bias is that he's discovered the theory of evolution is true.

he is the paralyzed dude in the cybernetic wheelchair?

I don't think I've ever seen him calling himself a philosopher, he's a professor for the public understanding of science. As part of that task, he feels the need to attack irrationality, the counterpart of science. I don't think you can say someone is bad at something they're not even pretending to do. If that is the case, I'm a bad race driver and a poor stamp collector.

Looking in to it you're right, he doesn't call himself a philosopher, which I'm glad to see. He basically takes philosophical arguments and makes them accessible to the general public, which I congratulate him for, but the bias and arrogance he puts behind it really is unacceptable for someone promoting philosophy.

Did you ever heard about term "meme", The Selfish gene theory or book The Extended Phenotype? I recomend you his book A Devil's Chaplain where you can find more about Dawkins and his philosophy.

Good thread Atomic_Piggy!

I am against this event and/or product.

That's a nice tautology you have there! Can I touch it?
