Excellent news, this will go a long way to stopping games being ruined by achievement whores. Although there is a balance....you should still have to work a bit of a sweat to get your unlocks. If every Tom, Dick and Harry has the unlocks it's a bit rubbish.

Running at a medic with an ubersaw when they have a standard bonesaw strikes terror into their hearts!
 
I joined a medic achievement server for the first time earlier, since the reasonable nature of the pyro achievements has made it obvious to me that the medic achievements were just a ridiculously stupid one-off, so I wanted not to have to worry about them ever again.

The experience I had from bouncing around about 4 different achievement servers was the most depressing, irritating, hateful time I've spent while playing TF2. MMORPG levels of timewasting mixed with all the worst parts of public server griefing. I gave up after getting only four more achievements, including the really counterproductive ones like Placebo Effect and Consultation. I'm glad Valve have pitched the pyro unlocks so we don't HAVE to go through that retarded process, but then it should really have been taken into consideration back when they were putting the medic pack together.

An ubersaw might look impressive when someone's bearing down on you with it, but all it says to me is 'I can't trust that medic's stats.'
 
Well shit, that means we have to work harder for that first achievement, but I'm going to be gunning for the Backburner (which I believe is how the Pyro should be in the first place) anyway.

Kudos to Valve.

I lol'ed at your acheivement server experience because I was there myself. I went through about 10 of the worst griefing server experiences of my life until I found one where people actually used voice chat and cooperated.

However for the Valve comment, hindsight is always 20/20. The fact they addressed this issue on the second acheivement pack shows they do listen and are always finding ways to do things better right away.

This is something you wouldn't see other compaines (cough EA cough) doing until their next game release.
 
True enough, although I'd like it if Valve now smoothed out the situation a bit, by going back and changing the medic milestones now to be more in line with the upcoming Pyro ones.

There are a lot of things the medic should have been ;). It was a first for Valve, and only 1/9th of the total unlockables, so it really isn't that big a deal. It was fun, despite its drawbacks, even the silliness that ensued :p.
 
Sounds good but Flare gun should be 8-10 not 15, and same for Backburner, it should be like 15-18 instead.
 
No, I think the 15, 20 and 25 marks are good. They keep them out of reach for newcomers, requiring some effort, but aren't that difficult to get. Leaving it as it is would be the best move, as far as I can see.

My computer's off back home on Sunday and I'm not off up until the following Saturday. I feel your pain. Although I mock you slightly in the fact you'll have twice as long to wait.

Watch videos of the unlockables while you're waiting. At least to ease the pain.
 
I couldn't play TF2 until two days ago. :) I got a medic and Pyro update at the same time essentially.:P
 
Thread title was being optimistic I'm afraid. I prefer 8 or less players per team and it seemed to take ages to find a server where people weren't farming :S
 
It took me some grinding... After I get the Backburner I will just let the rest accumulate. The main problem seems to be that NONE of the stats carry over, even kills. Also, nobody is cooperative on the achievement servers!

The Pyro stuff is so balanced.. I will probably find myself switching between things a lot.
 
Got all 3 already :P

Pretty easy in comparison to the medic. Considering I still havnt got the Ubersaw...Stupid 1000000Healing points. ;(
 
Im rather enjoying these. haha, I got the Dead Heat one at the same time as the guy I killed, it was cool, we congratulated eachother.
 
Got all 3, I LOVE the flare gun, it's full of awesomeness. I just wish valve would adjust the medic achievements.
 
does anyone know if Valve are planning on making the Medic weapons more accessible in this fashion (ie not having to get all achievements)??

That wouldn't go too well with the people who worked for them.
 
A lot of them just grinded for 'em. This removes the need to grind for 'em.

Anyway, I bet the pyro updates didn't go so well for people who already had all those achievements, but the tracking system wasn't in place yet to cater for 'em. Nuts to the people who already had 'em, retroupgrade the medics already. :3
