I got a source server on a linux box on a spare machine I got. I launch CSS with an rcon_password whatever, but when I use rcon_password whatever when I joined the server and do: rcon say hi, or rcon [any command].
Error: Could not establish connection to 192.168.1.3:27015
Something like that anyway.
What's happening? I can't rcon my own server thats on the floor below me? Even though I am connected to it.

My friends from outside the LAN (Internet that is) get pretty much the same, but they get of course my internet IP.

CS 1.6 and HLDM (HL1) and TF 1.6 work perfectly fine with rcon.

Call of Duty and UO work perfectly fine too.

This problems happens with Counter-Strike Source, and my recently installed Garry's Mod. That is all I have tried on the Source engine.

I have installed Mani on my CSS server, but I would like 'plain' rcon to work.

Any ideas?

I believe you'd need to change rcon_address to your internet IP for it to work correctly... I'm not an expert on it, but it might help.

Done and tried.
Local and Internet. Nothing . . .

rcon_address is usually used to rcon to a server you are not playing on, so you can rcon to it while not actually making a playing connection to it.

Note: I am on same LAN as server.

It's dedicated, right? (Seeing I haven't seen any Linux HL2 versions :p)

Is the Linux box your gateway to the internet?

Yep, dedicated. I assumed just about everybody is smart enough to figure it out when they see the word linux :P

And no, its not the gateway.
All three computers in this house are connected to the outside world via ADSL Router.

Me and just about anybody can connect and play on the server, just no rcon.

UDP: 27015 and 27020 (default HLDS, SRCDS and HLTV port)
TCP: 27015 (SRCDS Rcon port)
Yep

I am on the same LAN as the server is, and the firewall on the server is also disabled.
All other games work perfectly fine, its only Source servers

Quite odd :/
Try doing this : Evil link of DOOM
It's kind of the wonder miracle cure people used to sell in the Far West; it can help you, but don't expect too much from it :p

Does it work under WINE? :naughty:

Oh, you don't need Steam for Linux? :|
Well, then that method indeed doesn't work :p

I was being sarcasting with the WINE comment

No, you don't need Steam for dedicated servers. You just need the update tool which will download the latest server files when you run it.

Windows one is also available.

I have the exact same situation with this rcon problem.. Has anyone figured this out?
I used netstat -a -n at a bash shell on the server and noticed the TCP port 445 was was bound to the local address and port 1524 was on my client box. I tried rcon_address serverIP:1524 and the other port with no prevail. Would appreciate any suggestions
Do you need to run the source server as root for rcon to werk? Jease I hope not.
