I would definately say there's a certain possibility of an addon, CAN'T WAIT!!!!

The facts:
- First, one (Swedish Magazine?) source said that Valve were going to make Half-Life 3 and that Alyx would be the main character.
- Then another source ("the final days of Half-Life 2") said that Gabe wanted to make an episodic expansion staring Alyx and Dog
- Then another magazine source claimed that an Expansion staring Alyx and Dog is what Valve are currently working on.
- Then Valve have been hinting that they're working on a new project, but it is clearly big enough for them not to plain blurt out what it is.
- Then you realise that this is a PC game that has sold 1.7 Million copies at retail in two months and comes from a series with a notorious reputation for expansion packs. If HL2 never gets an expansion, I will cut up my own buttcheeks and have them in my sandwiches.
No, nothing is 100% concrete official, but it seems that baring some major catastrophe, we're getting at least one expansion and there is an extremely good chance it will have Alyx and Dog in it.

I don't like the idea of playing as Alyx and/or Dog. It's just cliche. Oh, HL2 expansion pack - guess who we'll be playing as. 
I'd rather play as a neutral character, like a Combine Soldier or a Resistance member, just like we played a human grunt in Op4 and a security guard in Blue Shift (of course, they had names and personalities, but they were just another unit of the enemies/allies.) Gordon, on the other hand, is unique. He is a physicist in an HEV suit fighting for his life - who has now been recruited by the G-Man.
Alyx already has a character, and that's the problem.. With Gordon, we had to find out who he was, as we played. So Gordon's character was created as we fought our way through the levels. There would be nothing special about Alyx. We already know all about her. And Dog? Now that's just stupid. Playing as a machine. Give me a break. Sure, it would be fun to pick cars up and smash Combine forces with them - but it would get boring after a while. Too repetitive.

i dont think hl3 ull be playing alyx no way because valve wants you to fell like your playing freemend in an exspantion i think so but remember in blue shift how at the start trying to get into the door an while the gaurd on the other side was fixing it u saw gordon go by on the tram ... i think that was a sick idea but you neva actully got to have any interaction with him if you were playing as as alyx wouldent u have to be teamed up with gordon alot that would creat sum probs with valves idea to keep you thinking your in the shoes as gordon... its kinda wierd ... but i hope your either alyx or a combine

somewhere in one of my PCZone mags, there was something about 'new content from valve to "SUBSCRIBERS" to steam' AAAAAAAAH! im not paying a monthly fee for the privilige of downloading new models.
