Oblivion Screenshots Thread

I can't wait til Friday!<3
Tho, it seems the 360 is indeed inferior to the PC vers graphically, it seems, through editing the INI in the PC vers, it APPEARS like you can make the water reflect EVERYTHING, characters, trees, weapons etc, ALL..
But that's not surprising, PC games usually allows these sort of things.. But we'll have to wait and see to be sure.
That's great for when I get a better comp..
Til then.. 360 ftw!

The LOD still looks crap, even on the highest settings, I want a similiar 360 pic, hopefully from a pro reviewer(I.e. straight from the framebufferer)

I think he has the 360 version...
Aye, I'll be getting the 360 version. Just saying this because I want to post screens but it just would be pointless. :)

All the ones that have been posted though - nice. Thanks guys.

Seems I'm out of town straight after work on Friday..... for the entire weekend. :|
Unless the game arrives on my doorstep on Thursday, I'll have to wait until Monday to play this bad boy. Well, that's what annual leave is for! :D

My copy gets here in about 8 hours and 16 minutes (3:30 PM EST), so I'll have some screens for you guys at about 8:00-9:00 PM GMT. :)

Make sure to post some on low settings as well :)

THIS is a nice shot, with full AF - doesn't look too bad :)

But

Where are all the forests in this place?? keep seeing shots with sparse tree cover, but no forest.

If I can pick out one flaw from the screenshots I've seen so far, it is. WTF is with the repetative floor textures?

from shacknews:

"specs: amd64-3500, 2GB, 6800(128-bit)
settings: 1600x900 (ws), high details, bloom (not hdr), no AA

performance: inside the caves... butter; outside with Full Distance and Full Land (Distance Landscape) it drops (duh) but still playable; but I decided to turn off the Full Land and it made a huge difference. hopefully someone has my specs but the 7800GS, i need to know the difference.

the bad: remember when some games gave you an option to turn on Hardware Mouse? yeah, this game needs it, there is a mouse lag for me where i move the mouse and the character still swings the weapon to the final position (it's pretty ackward for me), it definately doesn't have the smooth feel of an FPS like CS:S. I tried at different resolutions and it's still there :/ I dunno. During the 3 hours of game play the game just crashed to the desktop :[

the good: everything else :P, the game roxors!!!

no fps but screenshots of Distant Landscape...

more impressions:

"Some quick Oblivion impressions for those waiting for tomorrow(er, today):

Everything is very smooth, in case some PC users were worrying about whether the experience can match up to 360. But I am playing on a reasonably high end system. No mouse lag or anything like that, as somebody else posted. The movement actually feels very good, like decent FPS good.

I'm only running 1280x1024 no AA (since HDR is on). It auto-detected to Ultra High Quality. But I also ran up the sliders all the way for things like object draw distance, grass draw distance, and actor draw distance. The result is that the grass/rocks look a hell of a lot better and don't draw in anywhere near as close as in the videos. Plus I can see enemies and animals really far away. I did not notice any performance hit from this so I assume it's still north of 30fps.

System: A64 X2 @ 4800+ (2.4GHz), 2GB DDR, X1900XT OC'd. So yeah it's not the average PC but it just goes to show that recent systems should have no issue with this game.

Very quick gameplay impressions: Extremely positive. After being utterly blown away by the amount of visual character customization, I made a grizzled old Wood Elf Agent. Big on marksmanship, stealth, and personality with a touch of illusionist. I was surprised that I actually went with a pre-made class.

Sneaking and using ranged attacks is SO much more rewarding and useful than in morrowind, especially so since there aren't "dice rolls" but you actually need to just make your arrow hit the target. Love the damage multiplier when shooting from the shadows. I've just cleared out some random dungeons so far, so I've done a lot of shooting. Some of said shooting was even running backwards pelting guys as they ran at me. I have a short sword but it's great to not have to use the damn thing anytime I'm seen. Battle is very active and intense too, not like in morrowind where I just click back and forth with the enemy and hope they die.

I do worry that this game will get some "console'd" criticism. the inventory screens don't display a lot of items at once, everything is big and pretty. Plus you just don't get the feeling of immense complexity of every part of the game, good or bad. I obviously can't say for sure how complicated it gets though. The criticism is just something I half anticipate.

Overall I'm feeling HIGHLY confident this game will surpass Morrowind in almost every way for me. I can already tell so far that it's going to be a lot of fun playing with something besides battle tank warriors."

Nice reviews, sir. I am no longer in any doubt that my 6800ultra will run this puppy. Surprisingly i'm now looking forward more to dungeon plundering than exploring outdoors like i was before. Maybe it's just the scary textures out there

Mutley - yeah i agree, the non-tiling textures look like they were made by a noob. I saw one shot of a path texture that tiled really badly, each tile edge (about a metre square) was clearly visible. Having said that, it's one of those things that can and will be fixed by modders so it's forgivable. At least it plays ok, that's the main thing.

I also suspect all the talk about how the xbox version is slightly better than pc is a simple marketing strategy to get more cash into microsofts pockets, from what i've heard so far since release the pc version is just as smooth, if not better, what with all the scalability. And a lot more future-proof to boot.

as it should be :)

Well getting my copy from the local Gamestop in like 20 min. I'll post some screens and impressions later.

lol, ive been reading through the threads on other forums.. and <3 the PC version, you should beable to change the LOD distance using the .ini file.

Why did they make the emperor so damn ugly?

Patrick Stewart had a pay dispute with them, so they decided to make his character look uglier :)

Ok I've decided this thread doesn't have nearly enough screens so here comes a salvo of screens I've taken today.

Skies are nice

I got a useful See living ring that has a constant effect (also a dmg return one which is nice) and this is what I see for living characters when I equip it. It was very useful for fighting vampires that went invis :D

This is a nice setting and that green thing gives you a buff. It gave me extra magic I think

I found a rune in the wilderness and it gave me bound armor and sword :) I wish I could've kept them :(

Just a cool statue

Chapel

Hmmm, semi-fiery skies? Something is scary up ahead...

THAT! AIEEE!

so oblivion is a success ?

I only played Morrowind for like...5-10 hours top. I was just playing Oblivion for 5 hours straight and the only reason I stopped is because it crashed :P

I've hardly scratched the surface of this game :D

Better combat
Better immersion
Better world
Better story

Oblivion > Morrowind

Can't wait to recieve my copy of Oblivion this Friday, but I doubt it can beat Daggerfall in terms of depthness.. I mean, Daggerfall had several thousands of houses you could buy, you could buy boats, carriages etc.. There were banks that had loans etc.. You could return in your money on a bank to get a check that weighed less.. I also really liked the randomly generated quests you could get from citizens etc.. The conversation system was also good, i.e. you could ask about a place, then they could tell you which direction it was, or mark it on your map..
Not to mention the world was ****ing huge.:)
I dream of a Daggerfall with the same graphics and details as Oblivion/Morrowind.. But that'd take so long to develop it's not even funny(Probably like 10-20 years <3).

Yeah, but could you sit down in Dagerfall?

yes, you could crawl, slide, jump, climb! Do all sorts of crazy shiet!
You could summon daedric princes in order to get magic artifacts!
You could go to COURT if you commited crimes and DEFEND yourself(Something I've missed in Morrowind and I assume ain't in Oblivion)

dont you have to use the mouse to move around? i only started daggerfall to see what it was like, and clicking the top of the screen to move pissed me off something chronic.

oldagerocker, too bad you didn't take your time to go into the options menu and just make one click to switch the control system..:p

alright, here's some of the better ones from the masses I've taken :D

www.fransinc.net/hazar/11-01-53-04.png

edit: that's running just about everything full, 1280x1024, 4x aa, bloom ('cause you can't have hdr on with aa for some reason), and most of the distance sliders all the way out. You can also see what frams I'm getting, and thoes are somewhat normal and steady for outdoors. Indoors and in caves and cities I get 60-70 steady

My rig: amd 3800+ 64 X2, 7800gt 256mb, 1 gb kingston ram, running it on an SATA drive with a 16mb cache if that makes any difference.

awesome hazar :) I should get about the same performance yipee!

I'm uploading a few quick screenshots I took today featuring the first time into Oblivion. Don't worry, they're not really spoiler screenshots since you'll reach this part within... what, an hour and a half?

These were taken at 1280x1024; all High settings; 2x AA.

First of all - Sexy screens. Secondly, I hate you. ;)

Is it just me, or does that town look rather bare?

Sui, the towns are loaded seperately, what you see there is from the outside looking in, a small less detailed model they use for fps saving reasons.
