Oblivion Walkthrough Video

6600gt
1.8ghz AMD 64 3000+
1024 RAM

I get around 30-50 fps with all setting high, 2x AA in HL2/Mods

Should I overclock for Oblivion? (I may or may not get it)

Umm... there wasnt really any animation back then. It was a few pixels running around the screen.

You didnt need a high FPS.

you sir, have just been slapped with the white glove of imbecility

Ouch, poor 9800 Pro. Ground textures are bad. If that's the best the game can do with a 9800Pro, I'll probably pass on this game for now. I'll get back to it, once I've updated my computer and there's a cheap collector's edition out with all the expensions. This way I can actually do good on the upcoming exams :D.

On the first screenshot it clearly says:

Hochst mogliche Detailstufe - Highest possible level of detail

Second screenshot: Mittlere Standardstufe - Medium standard level

You're right, my bad. :P

It will probably be possible to tweak it in the game files.

Like in HL2 on my old GeForce4MX440. Some objects were fading away at a certain distance. That was annoying, cause the distance was short. But no, Valve didn't care to implement a function that would allow you to change this. I had to change some values in one file that had "DO NOT EDIT!" on top of it. Noticed no performance drop afterwards.

I formatted my computer recently (Boot failiure) and I've only got CSS installed. Still getting the same performance. Oh and I'm overclocking EVERYTHING on my computer that can be. 1.9Ghz amd xp2500+, 512mb of Corsair RAM set to Aggressive timings (3,2,2 I think). Graphics card clocks at 402 and 388 (Core / Mem respectively). So yeah. I get terrible reg at any settings above mat_picmip 4, which is why I have it like that.

Damn Dek, i didn't realise it blew that much !!!

You know how i was running a 9800 Pro on my bro's pc whilst i got a replacement for the 6800 Ultra ? Well it could run css on 1280 x 1024, med settings at between 50-80 fps constant.. !! It was fairly heavily overclocked and on a 3Ghz northwood P4 at 3.5 though, but still !!

Well, if the game was 2D, he's right.

Believe it or not, animation also exists in 2D. You can have the other glove :dork:

Those ground textures are horrible - they don't even tile properly :|

That video was awful! I feel terribly sorry for anyone who has to play it like that. If it would look and play like that on my machine, I wouldn't even buy the damn game. I would just wait until I upgraded my rig. Good thing mine should be able to do much much better! :)

I've got another screenie, from a different source: http://oblivion.bonusweb.cz/obrazek.html?obrazek=oblivion20030604.jpg

And I also watched the "1 week to go" video and realised that the distant textures look low res as well, but you can't see that clearly, becuase it's darker and after all it's a video.

So I'm afraid it's possible that we all will see these graphics. Everything else seems fine, apart from the crap low res distant textures ;/

Ouch, but to be honest for medium to low end spec, that really isnt that bad. I however will be enjoying it in its full glory with good fps, or else I shall challenge thee creator's with fisticuffs of doom!

omg someone please tell me those Germans got theire graphics turned down because of gore or something stupid like that...

those screenshots looks pretty goddamn awful, even Morrowind looks better on my current machine...what the **** is up with the low res textures showing up at such short distances?

this also begs the question...what the hell kind of hell machine have the videos etc. so far been showcased on???

I'm quite dissapointed...seems we've been had by Bethesda as far as graphics goes...

hurray! only another 2 minutes in line...i think

what the fudgecicles? 21kb/sec?!?! screw this

qft, game looks f**kin shit in these screens, wtf?

just saw this video...anyone know if it was the video recorder that caused such horrible framerates or if the game actually ran like that? ****ing slideshow :-(

I'm getting more and more discouraged by these things that keeps coming up...

it's the FRAPS app ..people have already commented that video walkthrough suffer lag due to the recording software ..I've seen reports where people said it ran fine with a 9800pro ..a 4-5 year old video card

your framerate definently drops when recording a vid

I was testing it out in bf2, I would get around 60-70 normally but it would drop to 30 while recording

did you get your copy yet Hazar? waiting on mine for tommorrow ;(

no ;(

the store that would have them (the only one in town, walmart) doesn't have them in yet :(

the guy said they might get the shipment today

THEY BETTER

ya ..found out there's a few EB games stores in town that have it but it's $10 cheaper if I buy it tommorrow ...I really want this game but $10 is still $10 ..it's the principle of it more than the money. If there's no copies left when I go tommorrow I'll kill everyone in the store ...it's the principle of it more than the money

Agreed. At first in the beginning of the video I thought my processor was just having a hard time rendering the video. Then I realized that was just the extremely choppy and poor performance of that rig. Then again, that CPU did suck balls.
