Well there have been many rumors circulating the net over the past few days about a new patch in the works. Based on what EA had already told us after the release of the 1.3 patch, it was probably assumed that a new patch would be in production. The new rumors about the patch also have it including a new map for BF2 titled "Road To Jalalabad." The players within these test servers running this new map all have names such as "BFTest." The game versions on these test servers are also listed as "1.1.2887-719.0," where as the current 1.3 patch is listed as "1.1.2878-710.0." Even more interestingly noted is the chance a new game mode may be in the works. This rumor spawns from the fact that in these test servers there's an option that states "bf2_infantryonly." Below are links to the two servers from which all the rumors come.

Sounds very promising, the infantry-only would please the ones who hate vehicles (I love them personally, but to each their own) but the new map = <3. I saw the servers a while back in action (lots of people named BFTest), but it's down right now.

Sw33t! New map! Infantry only setting sounds interesting as well (infantry ftw!).

Infantry only could be fun, but that would take away from the AT kit.

There's an infantry ladder at enemydown.com. 16 player maps, no C4/claymores/AT Mines/vehicles. Of course nothing keeps you from using those, but you'll automatically lose tha match if you do. Maybe the infantry only setting will disable those?

I heard a rumour that this new patch takes out C4 and helicopters, and you can't run or shoot anymore.

wtf?

Map sounds like something out of Team America :P A new map would be cool though :D

Yeah I read about the Road to Jalalabad on the BF2S forums, some people said it was fake. I hope not. :P

Infantry is this game's major weakness.. Why would you want no vehicles?

I think infantry is awesome fun. Especially when you're in a squad that actually is working together properly.

Yes! Infantry maps, finally I will pwnzorx all without fear of a tank! :P

it pisses me off that all people play is sharqi and karkland.

How come nobody plays clean sweep or the oil fields....all the servers i find that play those are all like 32 player servers with a 300 ping. Any large, low pinging server, is always like a "24/7 karkland server!" or some retarded shit...

and god damnt, snipers need claymores. Everybody gets killed by claymores, even snipers, but they are a snipers only defense at close range.

It's called a hand gun. It's not meant to be a hand cannon but it does the job. As for servers I always play on a 48 player flyboys (airfield maps only) server.

How is this game lately? I used to play this religiously...in fact I was playing it on the 1st day of release -

ohhhyeah7ob.jpg

But the ranking system was too steep, and I only reached sarge...but then they brought out that patch that made it too easy to get a new rank. I came in to find newbies galore, so I found myself with a shitty commander half the time because he played more than me, not because he had more skill. I got into a clan before the lag and loading times AND crashes became too much...and I quit.

So how is it today?

P.S Stats - http://bf2s.com/player/43435120/

P.S.S - Does the PKM still r0x0r? Or did they overpower it or make it noob friendly?

The game's changed completely:

AA actually works (mobile AA is deadly!)
Heli's are paper-thin now now (an M95 shot takes off ~2 bars of health <_<)
Solo heli drops in altitude now
n00b tubes are no longer mini-nukes
Assault class is completely useless now (Support > Assault in every way)
Claymores and AT mines no longer trigger friendllies
Neither claymores or AT mines can be triggered by explosives
Claymores are uncounterable short of killing the sniper (at least AT mines you can wrench it!), the blast radius / trigger is ~10 feet... f**king ridiculous!
Blackhawk mini-guns completely blows now
And... there's more but couldn't be buggered to name it, mostly just balance tweaks.
PKM's are no longer godly, they're ok now

Grenades fired from the GL also bounce now, so you never hit what you aim at (kind of like the sniper).

I believe this varies with the server, because I die from friendly AT mines all the time. Even ask the 256 guys, even though it doesn't happen on their server, I still avoid them.

Yeah, i think the friendly fire on mines etc is a server side setting. Though most servers i visit have FF turn off on them.

Yeah my bad, it is a server side option but servers with FF=1 are rare and I avoid them like the plague.

edit:

Hehe, funny thing is when they toned it down, Dice said it was because they intended as an anti-vehicle weapon. With the bounce, often times it'll just bounce right off leaving barely a scratch... making it useless except under ideal circumstances.

Yep, it's a server side option, but most servers use the default setting which is FF=off.

To hell with this D:

We used to fight like real men against those choppers! Even if they were friendly and we got kicked from the server because they were dickheaded enough to fly headlong into a cliff...

Greetings,

The launch of Battlefield 2: Armored Fury has started off with great success, the maps have been great and the new scout choppers are introducing a whole new style of game play. Not surprisingly, there has been a lot of support and approval from the American community. Playing in Alaska, fields and Operation Road Rage make these maps a great change up in play. If not already, I suggest joining in the fun; it?s available for download at http://downloader.ea.com/products/en_US/bf2armor.

We recognize that this has been a very trying time for everyone who enjoys Battlefield 2 and are putting forth every effort to improve upon the issues that are causing some players frustration. The DICE team has been reviewing player feedback gathered from forums, email, and the ranker server providers in an effort to provide the best possible step forward from 1.3. While this work has been highly focused on bug fixing the team has also managed to put some work towards new content.

Some groups have noticed the testing of a new map ?Road to Jalalabad? being run on our test servers. This map will be included in our next patch release and is not part of a new booster pack. Some of the items on the change list for this next step are:

Reversion: Allowing unlocks on unranked servers
Fix/Reversion: We fixed the issue preventing mod teams from running multiple game modes in one map list.
Tuning: We have lowered the number of players needed to start a ranked game.
Tuning: We have made some modifications to the vehicle drop feature introduced in 1.3. These changes should reduce the overall impact of "cartillery" on game play.
Crash Fix: We have located and fixed a crash connected to 1.3.
These are only a small portion of the fixes being worked on for our next step. We would also like to announce that we will be holding an Open Beta in early July for this next patch. We will have public servers hosted, Beta files available on mirror sites, and specific threads for feedback during this Beta period hosted on the EA forums.

As always keep your eyes on this space for all the latest Battlefield News.

So... new map is official! Road to Jalalabad, sounds promising ;) Fixing Cartillery is nice, but I had a load of fun abusing it. Anyway, the after the fiasco of patch 1.3 this can only improve on things... hopefully!

Well the Open Beta is in early July so I'm thinking it should be out by late July/early August. The new map sounds great!
