What if the Gman hired Shephard out to Breen? It'd keep the spirit of Opposing Force alive and kicking, since you'd be slaying the Resistance forces...

They could make you an elite Combine unit, so you can retain the ability to lead fellow troops...

I doubt we'll see a game where we play as a Combine unit... But I think we'll see Shepard come back, probably in an expansion about the 7 hour war.

Both ideas are good, and it would definetly be great to play Shepherd again. But if there is to be any new information from those expansions it must either be at some time between hl1 and 2, or after hl2, maybe in a different city...

Lol And it would be sad to know that no matter what you did Dr.Breen would make earth surrender anyway, and valve has yet to make a prologue expansion, dont see why they should start now.
