Problem: Computer restarts...

Hey hey! I'm new, so please don't flame me if I make a mistake...! :rolling:

Anyway.. My problem is, I do a full install of the DVD version of HL2, the most basic one, no extras or anything... Install Steam, log into steam, start HL2 aaaand.... BANG. Computer restarts. No warning or anything. When it loads up again, all it says is "Your system has recovered from a critical error" blah blah blah...

Anyone know why this may be happenin'? I think it may be a problem with my hardware.. I'll list what I got...

P4 2.8 GHz (not overclocked yet..!)
512Mb RAM
GeForce XFX 6200 256Mb Graphics Card
One DVD +/- Writer
Some really crappy old sound card I got for a fiver when my onboard gave up on me...

I think thats all there is.. No webcams, MP3 players or anything plugged into USB ports.. Theres minimal stuff connected to it..

Anyone got an idea? Please help me, i'm still yet to play HL2!

Try taking out the really crappy sound card?
If it's a Creative soundcard, you really should try this because HL2 often buggers up with older soundcards if they create an IRQ conflict.

Mm.. Tried that, it also had the same problem before the crappy old thing went in... Darn...

Ah well, i'll keep messin' around with my card..

My mate said it might be as its a GeForce and HL2 is built for ATI cards... (is this true...)

Its an idea...:x
