problems of a newbie

hi

i am a new user of hl and i cant even install it properly.. my pc hangs everytime and sometimes kicks me out of the game is there anyone who can help me with the install?? ive got an AMD sempron 1.6ghz and 192 MB and a via/s3g display driver. is this enough?

Increase your system RAM if you can. 192 is barely adequate.

Also, run it at desktop resolution; this prevents a few crashes. Set graphics settings to medium.

Also, under launch options (in Steam) type +map_background none. This reduces the game startup time, and allows you to at least see the menu.

dude get a new computer seriously.
I doubt you could even upgrade if your setup looks like that - oh and you won't be able to play HL2

I can run HL 2 on my old DirectX6 machine. He can surely handle it

EDIT: But it will look ugly. Upgrade if you can, coz it looks and runs better on my DirectX9 machine.

he has an integrated GPU and only 192mb of RAM - how could that possibly work?

BECAUSE IT WORKED ON MY OLD MACHINE.
Integrated GPU, 128 MB RAM. Whaddya say to that?? :sniper:

PS: No shadows, reflection or HDR, and framerate around 10 per sec. Physics at full. Barely playable.

I would upgrade if I were you. Source is incredibly efficient, but none of the other new game engines work on my old rig.
Not Doom 3, not FEAR, definitely not Oblivion.

However all Source games and mods will run OK on your system (incl. Episode One).

I mean, sure, he should upgrade, but that goes without saying.
