Quaristice Promo Tracks (Autechre)

Oh god. Oh gooooddddddd.....

Sounds dark and ****ed. I think I'm gonna like this one.

Did they play Tankakem and Rale in order without a break? I guess they did. WNSN sounds ****ing incredible.

Again, I gotta love how their discography evolves. How each album sounds like a further iteration of the previous one.

I can still hear a fair bit of Untilted in there. The more lo-fi instrumentation and rhythm. And the tracks aren't exploding into absolute messes towards the end, so that's a sign of consistency. I think my previous predictions of a more "old school" album were somewhat accurate, as some of those tracks seem to adhere to Ae's earlier electro sensibilities.

"WNSN" is great.

*BLAH BLAH BLAH CAN'T HEAR YOU*

I'm avoiding temptation atm; I'm waiting for the full release to play on my loud system alone. Read on WATMM that there's a track that's similar to Gantz Graf, to which, if true, I will probably die of orgasmic joy upon listening.

But they're sooo good Viperidae. Sooo good. Give in to the temptation. Sooo good.

...sooo good.

Check it ouuuuut. Got the new Mars Volta download on the one hand then some new Autechre stuff to download afterwards. My Monday just got a whole lot better.

EDIT: So, so, so, so, so fething good.

You can download it (MP3 or FLAC) from bleep.com right now guys!

****ing the page won't load enough for me to download it. They must be getting tons of hits right now. Wow, I finally managed to preview the first track and it's delicious. LET ME HAVE IT ALREADY BLEEP!

Edit: I got this shit, alright!

Also, I found these on WATMM. Hahaha. Look at Sean, LOL!

Man, I gotta get my old North Face jacket out again. Then I can just hang around them and pretend to be a third member. :O

Any way... verdict on the album?
I don't know yet. It's what I expected in a lot of ways, but drastically different in many others. Really stripped down, rigid, and cold. At times it sounds like acid, or some bastard derivative of it. It's actually caught me off guard, so my initial reactions have been mixed. But I can already feel the appreciation forming with repeated listens. And I'm surprised by how much I like their ambient pieces.

Tell me about it.

Fol3 is what I was hoping the album would be more like. It's comparable to Pro Radii in the sense that they're both sonically unique for Autechre. Their ambient pieces do kick some serious ass, I agree.

Previewed a bit from bleep.com, what little I heard was...beautiful :O
Also, that site has a really cool layout. I like the audio player.

Anyway...*heads to thepiratebay.org*

I got it!

It scares me. Can't wait to start cycling to school with Tankakern playing, though (different track name to promo?)

That's The Wire's **** up. I don't believe they were even supposed to play those tracks.

They appear to have been taken down. Shit.

But what's his? A Battles remix?

Yes, that's exactly what this is.

More seriously though, the album is already out Sulk! They're not that good though, so don't bother.

''IO'' has a really terrifying, child like feel to it.

I'm not sure what I make of it so far - at the moment, it's quite a mouthfull trying to get over all the different tracks and establish some favourites but the album as a whole has been on repeat since early this morning and since I got home today so I'm enjoying it quite a bit. It just feels really big - hard to find my bearings with it, like.

I dunno.

That's exactly how I felt. But after giving it more time (and listening with a lot of weed), I'm really starting to love it. "Simmm" is one of the best Autechre tracks I've ever heard, beautifully capturing some kind of monolithic space event. "chec9" transitions into ominous techno-terror halfway through. "Altibzz" is just... just great, really. And in spite of their last decade of output with splintering percussive tweak****ery, many of its surprisingly best moments lie in its understated, quiet parts.

There's still some tracks I haven't come to appreciate much yet, like "Fol3". But on the whole I think it's very good. Interesting, pieces of it sound like they could be from a Gescom release (see Minidisc).

Aye, Simmm is fantastic. Easily my favorite from the album but for an all time Autechre track it's got to be Montreal or V-Proc for me, but that's another story.

"Paralel Suns" is so nice...I can't stop listening to it

I'm pretty bored of Autechre right now. "Steels," "Fol3," "WNSN," and "Altibzz" are something though. I don't have much to say about the album really.

So I got it off bleep. Listened to it on some big speakers.

Thoughts:

As has been said, Altibzz is great. I believe the only track that doesn't go completely dissonant melody wise.

The balinese/gamelan flavour of Simmm is warmly felt, but the song itself hasn't really hooked me (yet).

WNSN's harpsicord... ish... thing reminded me of the Adams Family at first. Heh.

I enjoyed the binary percussion of plyPhon rapid basskick.

fwzE is just tooooo much fun to be ignored. Come on guys.

bnc Castl sounds like some kind of weird noise machine (musique concrete?).

Theswere is a huge tease, trying constantly to get to its theme with the scraping percussion (-thing) over-top, only to actually be laid bare in the last bar.

Notwo is very nice, keeping a good balance of in-key and off-.

I think I'll really get to like Outh9X. Just not yet.

Generally, I don't see the connection much with Untilted. Sonically, it's mastered similarly, yes, but in each track this LP has a lot more going on. Structurally, yes there's also the beatwise switch that was so prominent in Untilted which usually occurs in the middle/3rd quarter of the tracks, but they've been doing that for a really long time (As early as Teartear. Remember that one?). One thing I've noticed that occured more on my larger system than my comp speakers: a lot of watery noises. I'm not sure if that's just the high freq zing of the synths or something intentionally added.

Gods..

So many years and noone's even come close. Phenomenal musicians.

"fwzE" is actually one of the tracks that's taken me a lot longer to like.
Although "The Plc" is now another favorite.
