Do we know if we will have the ability to pick up objects like in HL2? Obviously that would change a lot of the way maps are put together and such. But does anyone know?

Well maybe ask at their own forums, this is Halflife2.net

didn't feel like starting an account there, thought I might you know, ask here, at a place where people know a lot about Half Life related things.

I don't know, but I don't see why they'd remove the ability, you can only pick up fairly small objects anyway.

What would it change about the map design?

Urgh, I hope it's better than the way HL moved crates. That's so annoying. You can't move them properly on modern computers. I can't remember what it used to be like, but I'm pretty sure it used to be fine.

Stacking. Think about all the places you could get to in black mesa if it were for the simple fact that you could pick up and stack objects.

Oh god I can't wait for BMS ;-; I wanna be able to pick up a crate and throw it at a houndeye. :B It'd bounce off or break on it, then it'd shake it's little head like "wtf?"

Personally, I believe that if a player goes to the trouble to stack 12 crates to get over a wall or reach the roof of a building, they deserve to fall out of the map.

Of course, that's coming from me who spent two hours in "Under the Radar" trying to climb up to the warehouse roofs only to find there were invisible walls up there. D:

I never managed to get out of the map in Episode Two, but I did get to a few places where I could see out of the map. :P

well when I mentioned stacking, I meant as bypassing puzzles.

I even bypassed something in HL2, remember that part in Entanglement when there are four combine blue grids, and you have to set up turrets?

Well I kept dying, so I stacked boxes and file cabinets until I reached one of those balconies and killed them from up there.

Well, as Benjamin Franklin said, The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
So, I guess I was just using my brain?

You can't lift many crates with just your hands, however. You wouldn't be able to pick up cabinets in BM:S, whereas you can do it with the gravity gun in HL2.

And I think they'd work it in somehow...

I can't remember too many puzzles that could be solved by stacking crates. I can't remember too many puzzles, to be honest.

Man I hated Houndeyes.

I learned to appreciate houndeyes more, cute little buggers, so hyper. But they are a pain when you are trying to take care of a different enemy.

They're remaking the level geometry so as to not have that happen. They aren't just copy-pasting HL1 geometry.

I've got this image now of these dudes ctrl+c-ctrl+ving from a HL SDK into the Source SDK.

Houndeyes are ADORABLE. When I first saw one, I didn't want to kill it because it was so cute. <3<3
When I first saw one I remembered an article that said they were friendly, so I was like, "Come here you cute lil thing! Wait, what are you doing? AARGH blue rings of pain!!" D:

It has been confirmed that you can pick up objects of a reasonable size, mass. Just don't expect to cause damage to enemies

Yeah I had the same feeling, even though it was so Alien, the Houndeyes were so cute I wanted one as a pet :D

I hated houndseyes. Not because they're a bitch. Just because they don't do anything. They take off like 4 damage. And they have to charge up to do it.

Come here you bloody dog-look-alikes! Taste lead!

if they did more damage they would be better.

"Internal bleeding detected"

That's what the HEV used to say, but of course - you had to stand around in front of houndeyes for at least 10 seconds or be in bad shape already. >_>

I first saw one while playing the Uplink and it just ran away from me. I thought they were so cuddly and thought for a moment it was cool the developers didn't make every creature and enemy. I played the real game and found myself wrong, and badly hurt by a group. (They tend to not attack if they can run or alone.)

I wonder if they're going to implement the same thing, how you can just bypass some enemies unless you attack first.

On a side note. I am also worried about that Gargantua and the way it will die.

If you recall, in the original HL, when you killed one, it died in such a stupid and unrealistic way, it warped and then blew up. I hope they have something better than that.

I hope they expand the Xen levels! I loved Xen and I wished their had been more levels in that world as well as more organic weapons or at least improve the snark and hive hand so its not completely useless.

That happened on Xen, the first loading screen of the alien factory; the Vortigaunts ignore you until you kill them or the alien controllers arrive, at the next load.

Well they have to keep it as faithful to the original as possible I would think, so making the hive hand or snark better may be out of the question. As useless as those weapons may be...
