So lets see how many Rap fans we have here, one thing i would want to make clear first is that:

I dont hate...i never hate. I listen to Rap, that doesnt mean i hate rock. I do listen to rock time to time, but i just dont "like" it that much, but i dont hate it, i respect it.

as soon as i mention rap on most forums people start hating on it "uhh Rap sux, ROCK FOR TEH_WIN" hey hey hey....why hate? Hate is a strong word...

Now some people might confuse the rap im talking about with the new rap. MTV, 50 Cent, is great examples of this, they are what i call "comersial rappers". Or in other words "fake". I dont hate them, they are just trying to live through the day, but i dont like what they are doing, they have forgoten what rap really is.

If you think you know what rap is and you use MTV as a source, then your out somewhere in the wild...
I see rap as the tool of the poor to fight the power (the Powerfuller, Richer aka Government)

Now my knowledge about rap isnt that clear but this is atleast what i have learned from my years. Rap appeard from Soul and Jaz, its also part of Hip Hop but im talking about Rap as its own genre.

It was used by the poor in the ghetto, trying to send a message to the outer world what is really going on.

"the message"

The most important thing in a rap song is "the message" the point, the words thats trying to teach you something. Ever noticed that some songs just raps about how good a girl is looking or how hoes are so great? Well, they got no message..thats why...their fake, because their missing out on the major thing in rap. An example is Candy Shop-50 cent...i cant find a single good message in that song, othervise, the beat was good etc.

Now when you know allittle more what im talking about, i want to know what kind of rap you like, keep it friendly, i dont want some "east, west coast war" in here.

I mostly listen to West Coast but alot of East coast also, i have no real side. Ice Cube, Dr.Dre, Mc.Ren, NWA, West-side Connection, Mack10, Snoop Dogg, Tupac etc is what i listen to the most. But i also listen to east coast as i said such as Nas, Eminem for a few to mention. Now your probably going around saying "eminem? But..isnt Eminem "fake"?"

To be honest, i think that hes real but sometimes i have to admit his tracking of to fake. He has basecly lived through what ever other real rapper has been through, and he is mostly serious rapping about his life and world problems, always put his Message with good words. People diss him just because hes "eminem" but take more time learning from him, he has alot to teach and hes a great guy!

No, im not black, infact, i come from Sweden and im plain white...but i hope thats not going to change anything!

Please be serious, dont spam and flame the thread, if you dont like rap, just post why you dont and give good reasons, be mature, have respect, and dont hate!

So, what do you listen to?

I like 50 cent, My favorite song by him is ''Just a lil Bit'' I also like rock music a little bit

Hip-hop > Rap.

I'm more into the underground/indie rappers stuff like E-Street and Aesop Rock.

I like "old-school" hip-hop like the stuff in San Andreas. From 2000 on, forget it. I don't like listening to "bang that bitch," "kill that ****er," over and over. Thanks.

*gets it over with*

Rap sucks.

Carry on.

The only good rap was the old old old stuff. None of that gangster rap.

Rap nowadays is a joke, and a taint to cultures.

I don't like rap at all, but I really like Kanye West's work - it's not as processed as far as mainstream rap goes.

Here here for underground rap. Do you like Sage Francis or Gym Class Heroes? I like 80's and early 90's rap as well, like Run DMC, Public Enemy, and Cyprus Hill.

i like rap\hiphop
and yeah its going down now , those new artists ( 50Cent ) just sucks, thats why i keep listening to the old-school rap.
about Eminem, EM was a great rapper actually one of the best rappers ever. but he keep putting stupid stuff lately =\
his old stuff is great espcieally " the eminem show " i love this album so much.

My Fav :
2Pac
Dr.dre
snoop dogg
eminem ( the old eminem )
The Game

one of the new artists cought my attention latelly are Fort Minor, they got skills

Old-school rap/hip-hop still kicks ass in my book--guys like Slick Rick, Poor Righteous Teachers, Doug E. Fresh, D Nice, BDP, De La Soul, Stetsasonic and more. Great great stuff and mostly with a decent message. The artist that gives me the most positive vibe right now is Talib Kweli, but there are many more like him that most people just haven't heard of and that is a shame. Mainstream rap/hip-hop/R&B is 98% garbage. Changing that is going to be a tough road though....

Sage Francis!

I hate rap/hip-hop, I just don't find the fun like many others do in listening to songs about violence, women hating, prostitution, rape and drug dealing. Not to mention the fact that people, like my twelve year old sister listens to that filth and adopt their habits. Not to mention the Disney Channel, don't get me started on that.

never been a big fan of rap (or of other music genres) because of the cookie cutter-ness of most artists out these days, the only rap artist I am interested in is Kos becuase he doesn't sing about the same damn thing as everyone else and his style in unique.

80's Rap is really the only good rap IMO

BTW guys, Classical Music > Techno, Rap, Pop, Rock, Jazz.
Hip-Hop = Rap.

"lol u n00b thts jst ur opinion" No, it's yours too!

I haven't heard much "old school" rap but I have heard plenty of the newer stuff. It is all crap. There is no talent in newer rap. All they do is throw some words together about some obscene topic and rhym once in a while in bad ways. A amateur could come up with better rhymes. After that they talk really fast with fast beats so you fell "pumped". I listen to music because it sounds good and the talent that is there. With rock music you have guitars, drum and vocals to match up. With rap you match the vocals with the beat and that's it.

Soul, Funk, and R&B > all.
Marvin Gaye, Barry White, Al Greene... that right there is some sexy shit.

You know how hard it is to come up with the perfect beat to match the vocals? How many nights you stay up to create the perfect mix of sounds, to tone down the bass, to choose where one part of the beat starts, and when another begins, and making sure that the tune goes with the song. In my opinion its just as hard.

Yes i play guitar, and i know how to make beats on fruity loops studio.
