Registering with Steam

I just bought Half Life 2 and installed it. When I try to register with Steam it loads upto 27%, crashes and comes up with this error, Steam.exe (main exception): ERROR:delete of Steam.exe failed, Win32 Error5 "access is denied."
Does anybody know what is causing this?

After about three and a half hour and several tries it went through. Must be from the servers being over loaded.
