I'd say the lone lurker on the top floor of an abandoned house on Highway 17, it was right in front of me before i squinted enough to realise what it was, then it moaned at me.

I shot it with a SMG Grenade and blew it out the hole in the roof.

it'd have to be the first area of ravenholm. i played it really late. the hanging legs shook me up a little, and then the jumping out monsters finished the job. i promptly closed hl2 and my computer down for the night.

... damn i killed those mutants bad the next day... :sniper:

Anytime the fast headcrab zombies would jump from out of nowhere at me.

By far, those freaky black widow headecrabs in ravenholm. I also played that part at night.

During Water Hazard, when I was exploring one of the pipes. It was dark and I thought the way to the ammo box was clear, but a zombie emerged from behind a corpse and scared the hell out of me. Really well done. I wasn't expecting it. :)

Yeah that still does it. Predictable in most cases but it still makes you jump. Those fast zombies were pretty full on as well. I thought it was very creepy they way they came at you on the rooftops. Jumping & climbing drains to try & get at you. Scary though? Not a patch on Doom3. Doom3 was a one trick horse but it scared the sh*t out of me!

Raveholm freaked the hell out of me!

was ok until i saw first fast zombie

i was playing late at night when my dad was working

i to turn the game off :P

ravanholm is really somthing the first time.. but i didi it for the second time and i found a way to avoid most combat with the first couple of fast zombies , i just walk on the edge of the metallic water container where they just cant get to me.

nova prospect, the laundry room in the side room with ammo.. i went there to get the supplies, taking my time while my antlions killed the few last combines and then i hear that moan, i turn and there is a POISON ZOMBIE!!!!!! S***!! I ran out of there leaving much of the stuff untouched. Those zombies are always where you DONT want them.

Yea HL2 is sure scary.I found ravenholm real scary. But i also got tense when there were moments when u would be completly alone..walking along and you know somethings gonna happen.
For instance when u come out of ravenholm at the end out of the tunnel..and get to the long train tracks with the bleak silence..then its ur first encounter with combine.

Ravenholm is scary alright.. but if I wanted to compare it to Doom 3.. would Doom surpass Ravenholm?

Ravenholm was pretty freaky, the poisonous, black zombies scared me a bit.
But by far the scariest bit in the game was on Water Hazard, at the part where you have to push the washing machine or whatever it is onto a lift to make a ramp. When you come out of the tunnel you turn rright to find the ramp, if you get out and walk straight on a zombie jumps out from under water and scared the crap outta me.

I still hate ravenholm no matter how many times i palyed it.

i remember being so freaked that instead of going down the lift of the house when the fast zombies are climbing up. i just jumped off the house :P

there was a freaking poison zombie there, scared me :P

i also hate the part on highway 17 when you go into the tunnel and its all dark :S

For me the scariest parts where:

1. Middle of Ravenholm.
2. Water Hazard, with the zombie under the ammo box.
3. Highway 17, the dark tunnel, and the house with the poison zombie.

But... not as scary as Doom 3. :P

antlions scared the hell out of me
there massed attacks were cool ................and deadly

the dark tunnel on highway 17 scared the crap outta me ! the first time through i tried to ram my way through without fighting .. but then my buggy flipped over and i got killed :hmph: so the next time i just got out and shot all those boogers down.

doom 3 gets predictable after a while, but nontheless it's still scary :D

You said it all mate. Just seeing the fast zombies jumping from rooftop to rooftop the first time was enough! That moan as well....auuughhh!
Tunnel was scary the first time as I got out on foot. Second time I just sat and waited with my Tau Cannon ready.
How smug did everyone feel using the physics to get to the second floor of the house on Highway 17 only to be confronted by the Poison Zombie. It sent a chill through me!

The problem with Doom3, scary as it is, it just gets too relentless. The pacing of HL2 meant that a lot of the time you just weren't expecting to find the creature there. Doom3 you can pretty much guarantee something's going to jump out so you're pretty much prepared.

2nd part of Ravenholm, where you get to the plaza and there's like 10+ zombies coming from all sides. There's a spinning saw there, so I quickly darted under it, thinking I was safe.... but then the saw broke off...

I I hated that part that is now DM_lockdown, casue everything was so silesnt exept for the creepy music, and when I looked down I just knew there was some major shit going to happen.

Yeah, Ravenholm was probably the scariest overall part (particularly the fast zombies), but I think the most startled i've been (this is kinda embarasing  ) was when I was messing around on Sandtraps, I think. I had turned down the gravity so I could jump onto the roof of this 4 story house, so I jump onto the roof and I see that part of it is torn away. I walked up to it and (I honestly didn't see this coming) a roller mine pops up and I jumped back in my seat (luckily no one was watching).

In the dark tunnel on the highway I was not in the mood for fast zombies so I gravity gunned my way through and turboed out of there as fast as I could

I gotta say I freaked out when going to Klieners the first time and the stairs broke and all the combine came in and you had no weapon. I was like "oh shoot I have to find another way." I was happy when Alyx came and rescued me. She's my HERO!!!

And also ravenholm, duh. But not the fast zombies. You remember that corpse that was on the electric fence and it was twitching. That disturbed me alot, I really had to stop playing for a few minutes after that.

Ravenholm, the Tunnel at the begining of Sand Traps, and the Tunnel in Anticitizen One filled with Radioactive Waste and Zombies. *shivers*

Being outnumbered 5-1 by those damn fast zombies... freaked me out!

for me it was the first time ever fighting the poision zombie.. i didn't even notice it was there and i turned and looked...and omg. I RAN

Scariest moment...hmm...probably in the Nova prospekt lower levels, whith the electrocuted water.

The system shock 2 style music just started to make me shiver.

Scariest moments:

-The fast zombies in Ravenholm, when I blocked the door with boxes, and then they jumped at me through the window on the roof!
-The tunnel pile-up in Sandtraps.
-My first encounter with a Poison Zombie.

For me, it has to be the second Fast zombie i encountered in ravenholme. The first was bad enough, but it didnt jump, so i wasnt prepared for it.
The second one ran at me, so i levelled the .357 at its head, i thought "god, i hope its not going to be this easy all the way through"...
Then the bastard LEAPT at me, screaming.

The second scariest has to be the hidden poison zombies you occasionally come across, including the one in the house on highway 17, mainly because you honestly believe that the combine had killed all of them!

For me it was:
1. Right be for the Water Hazard stage running through the Canals and mistakeing a Barnical tentical for a iron bar in the dark and geting sucked into the Barnicals mouth.
2. Ravenholm when I first heard the screams of the fast Zombies and encountering them.
3. All of Ravenholm. (playing at night with a caffen overdose)
4. The part where you had to use the Gravity gun to move objects to get across the beach without the cart to get "bug bait". I felt like I was playing a videogame version of Tremers.

What a bunch of pansies in here. if you think HL2 is scary you should play doom3 at night with no lights in your room with 5.1 sound then we can talk how scary this game is. HL2 has just very small parts that are some scary but in doom3 its scary through the whole game you never know when a monster suddenly appears.

Actually, I knew exactly when a monster was going to appear.

yeah, that radioactive tunnel, in anticitizen one scared the shit outta me.

i wasnt scared ever through the game. I wasnt scared at all through doom 3 either. And while it sounds like im just a little kid trying to sound brave, iv never felt real fear in a game and the only time i jumped once. It was because there was silence for a long time and i was checking to make sure my volume wasnt down. so i turned the volume all the way up and forgot to turn it back down. About 15 min of silence later at full blast from behind me a monster yells DIE NOW!!!

i prolly would get more from games if i had reflexes... oh well

I was never really scared by any part but I didn't like that dark tunnel on Highway 17.

you'd think that wouldn't you. This mght be why you don't get scared either.

Sissies.

;)

Well, HL2 wasn't exactly scary for me, but it did make me jump a couple of times.

The various times where headcrabs would hide in shadows and then make their shreeking noise and jump at your face, those startled me.

The most memorable moment was when I scaled the cliff to enter Nova Prospekt. You climb up all those rocks and stuff, and there's no baddies around. You then make your way up the last rock and you see a giant tube where you need to enter. But right as you get up and look into the tube, a fast zombie comes charging at you with his stupid, loud groaning noise going on. That was intense.

Okay, so maybe it was a bit scary.
