And I was thinking about World of Warcraft. But I'm a little worried about coming to the game so late and was wondering if that would be a problem. Is the game still n00b friendly, or should I try something different? I'm just looking for a little advice and (hopefully) well-wishes from some of the WoW players on the forums.

Well I've only played a couple of MMORPGS, WoW beta was the first of them, and the other wasn't very mainstream(saga of ryzom). My main complaint about the second one was that the learning curve was so much steeper then WoW's

When i played WoW in the beta and also when i picked it up properly last july i was able to learn to play my class competently without having to spend half the time with my nose in the manual, it's a very intuitive game.

As far as joining late: there are new servers popping up pretty often to keep up with demand for the game, so you can start on one of the newer ones and not be too far behind everyone else. In terms of end-game content, it's pretty easy for the first part, and once you get past that you'll start learning your class and it's place in the end game stuff on your own, so you know what's good for your play style. From my experience, idiots who can't even spell their class name right can get into the end-game raid guilds, so you should have no problems :D

Wait for something amazing, like Warhammer Online.

Or World of Starcraft. OMG.

What about both? But yeah, I was talking to some of my friends about it. I'm probably going to get it. Hopefully my sanity will remain intact.

Unless you are a tree-hugging care-bear EvE is the best mmorpg currently on the market.

.bog.

lol people instantly jump to MMORPGs when the topic of an addicting game comes up. But the sad part it is that its the truth.

Personally I love my sex addiction...you could always look into that!

So, I need a new addiction...

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I just realised how much I loved those things.

StarCraft. Can't belive it's ten years old already, and still is awesome! :D

Wow is pretty cool for a while, after you get your epics and pretty much done all the end game stuff it gets mundane. Whatever you do, don't be a priest.

For some reason i don't find WoW as addictive as other people :| that may be due to the fact i try to play Guild Wars and FFXI alongside it ... more on topic though i would recommend WoW as it's still "noob friendly" in many ways.

WoW is very...addictive at times. Especially when you're trying to reach level 60. Its like 'yeah i'll carry on a bit longer, so i dont need to spend so much time trying tomorrow'..then tomorrow comes and the process repeats heh.

Problem in WoW is that everyone has done everything already. And i mean, EVERYTHING. Every boss has now been killed in every instance. You're not in your own world, and when the quest giver says 'you're a hero' or something, technically speaking you're the 1,345,679th person to have done it..youre just the next in the line of heros.

You never feel like you're actually the first to do something, nor do you feel like you've accomplished anything. You scream 'i did it at last!! my new mace!!' or something, and then you'll notice 30 other people running around with it already...

Easy solution to that ... just don't think about it and do it :p

You'll be running around screaming "my new mace" after you beat the boss for the 57th time, becasue it only drops 1/20 and the first 2 times it dropped someone who could barely use the item ninja-looted it.

QFT. Most boring class ever if you heal, which, luckily, I don't. FACEMELT MINDBLAST FACEMELT.

Druids are more enjoyable and do pretty much the same job as a priest, near enough anyway :p

Well, for an update to the posters:

Starcraft: still play it
Oblivion: Didn't really like Morrowind, so I'm not too interested
Muffins: Don't eat sweets

But I went ahead and bought it, but my internet is ****ed up and I can't play AAAARRRGGGHHH. Thanks for the input!

And get their best talents given to them as bought skills, not 31 point talents. As a warrior i am now obliged to hate dr00ds :D

I also need an addiction..I've been spending my time working on a map editor in C++ and C# for Starcraft. A C++ .dll to access the mpq's(no C# libraries unsuprisingly for it) and a C# program for everything else. I finally got the C++ part working in a console based window which I will have to port over into a .dll which should be extremely easy. Then I can work on everything in C# and do the renderer last(Though I've done renderer's before so im not worried).

Yes this is what I do when im bored, I program!

You could collect cookies though. Thats fun.

WoW ain't N00b friendly. You get flamed to death by the community.
Then some.

I don't know, I've got a few friends to team up with, and another couple friends to play with that are essentially brand new. Should keep me from being/appearing like too much of an idiot.

I think they meant noob friendly as in, it's easy to get to grips with, not the community, however i have known to be wrong :P

I was talking mainly to Flicko. Everyone else seems to say it's noob friendly. Tomorrow I'll know for sure.
