i mean, i know this is the next generation, but im surprised Valve can compress all those games into one. I know Ep. 1&2, and Portal aren't as long as HL2, but still. Do you think(for those of you buying retail) there are drawbacks to compression or what? do you think it would have been better to ship the Orange Box with two discs?

Figured they would be on different disks. This doesn't hold well for Ep 2 being on a seperate disk ever...

Where ever did you get the idea that all five games would be compacted into one disk? I've heard otherwise.

So have I. Doug Lombardi has said that there will be 3 Cd keys so maybe 3 DVDs, 1 DVD with HL2, 1 DVD with Ep1 and 1 DVD with Ep2 TF2 and Portal.

Bad if you don't have a DVD player, I'd imagine.

Three of the games use a lot of the same assets. I wouldn't be surprised if you could fit all five onto one or two DVDs.

Exactly! I heard the same. Personally, I'd find it quite absurd to combine all five games onto one disk, since in fact each game should be quite big in size.

Seeing as all 5 games use the same engine and three use alot of the same resources, you can compress it down quite a bit.

Guys, since Steam uses the GCF files, there are things called "source materials.gcf" and "source models.gcf". The materials/models are in them. All Source games use those files.

Episode Two GCF file will be probably just having some new content in, and using old stuff from the source gcf's.

Episode One's gcf alone - the bits that aren't "source materials", "source models", "source sounds", etc., is several gigs, I believe. You're not gonna fit that, HL2's, Ep2's, Portal's, and TF2's on one CD, probably not even on one DVD. No way.

This is a pointless conversation until the OP's assertion that it's only one DVD for the entire Orange box is verified, which I don't think is going to happen.

The PS3 version will almost certainly come on a single disc... it'll just be a blu-ray disc :)

Make that 25 GB. That's only a single-layer BR disc.

You would easily be able to get it on a DVD9 - possibly 2 DVD's

HL2 is about 2 gigs, EP1 is 1 gig, EP2 will probably be another 1 gig, portal probably around 500MB and TF2 will probably be the same size as DOD:S

All Valve games use alot of content between them.
