moppe said:From what I've heard this guy say earlier, I'm guessing that he's just bending the truth. He just put that pic there for not so many people have seen it, and even if them have, it would be perfect for a "betapic".

But I wonder though, in the chopper screenshot, entities/moving stuff (bullet trails, water splashes, some stuff in the background) doesn't seem to be reflected in the water, but I've seen many screenshots and moving videos where they were reflected. Why these inconsitencies Valve?
X-Vector said:As for the shots - been there seen that.
Quite why everyone is getting so worked up over them is puzzling, for they show over-familiar footage in an over-familiar level of quality.
I find HL2's style very attractive, but there are still things I'd like to see improved, the generic placeholder look of distant buildings for one.

X-Vector said:Always nice to see the typical lemming type behaviour rearing up its head; flame a fellow board member for being mildly critical and top it off by accusing him of posting a beta pic which is actually a screengrab of last year's pre-E3 trailer (the Media Player window is too obscure a hint, obviously).
Disappointing as well to see not one of the multitude of moderators around here step in.

I cannot stop laughing at how rediculous that is.. haha!

I don't know about their PS capabilities, but ATi has excellent AA strength... at least on par with nVidia's capabilities, if not usually better. ATi also has their temporal AA method.Pablo said:Correct me if I`m wrong.. I`m not a gfx wizzy, but isnt ATI`s strong side the pixel shaders and not AA? And since Valve is "working" with ATI it would`nt it make more sence if they used PS instead of AA? As I said correct me if I`m wrong and sorry for the off-topic question.. Just wondered when Abom brought it up.

About the reflection in the third pic , don't forget that when Eat Fresh visited Valve and was shown a level , he asked the guy who was playing why the trees don't reflect on the water , so the Valve guy brought down the console and wrote a command that enabled the reflections.
The same situation is very likely in this screenshots , they just disabled it for some reason.

Their architecture hasn't been upgraded hugely for the x800 series of cards, so they're basically a much faster version of the 9800 series... meaning that yes, your 9800/9600 Pro will still have fantastic AA/AF support. Heh, hit your friend for me - AA and AF are far from 'bad'. I don't know where I'd be without them, but it would probably involve alot of jagged edges and blurred textures *shudder*Pablo said:Hope i'm not turning this into a "will my comp work" post, but are you talking of the high-end x800 and the xt cards, or also the "older" 9600-9800 pro cards? And what about AF? (not that I know what it does or anything besides that it is a got thing) I have always avoided both (AA & AF) since I thought it was a "bad" thing for my 9800 pro card.. Stupid friend of mine giving me false info :hmph:
