Some questions about buying it in UK

If I did not buy HL2 silver/gold, then do I have to preload the game and how long will that take?
Also how do I pay for the preload ? I went on steam and it said click here to start the preload..so does that mean I pay after???
Wish it was made clearer how one is supposed to obtain the game, if you didnt get it with silver/gold.
I appreciate any help.

just pre-load and then pay by credit/debit card when it asks

Well you can buy it through Steam for $17.95+tax (I think it works out just over £10 in the end) by clicking Browse games on the steam menu, and it's at the top.

You can pre-load the game even if you haven't bought it, but when the game's released you won't be able to play it until you do. Or if you pre-order and pre-load it now, the second the game's released you'll be able to play it instantly.

i love the price, and the simplicity of buying it through steam. Come 26th ill be one happy chappy
