I'm listening to the radio while I'm writing this, and I'm noticing an annoying number of remakes of classic songs that can't compete with the original. The first that comes to mind is 'War Pigs' by Cake(?).

What do you guys have to say about this?

You mean like covers? Nothing against them, really. Often a band comes along and makes a much better version of someone else's song, I sometimes find. But indeed, it's common for a band to butcher someone else's song. ''Land of Confusion'' by Genesis has been ripped to shreds a fair few times by metal bands. Sad.

It depends on whether or not the remake is good.

I liked Limp Bizkits remake of that Who song, and I liked Johnny Cash's remake of Hurt, and Local H's cover of a Britney Spears song (it became an awesome grunge song)

I usually dislike every remake but I really love Queen's We Are the Champions remake by Jonathan Coulton, it's amazing.

The only remake that I actually hated with a passion was a cover on Queen's "Who wants to live forever" by Breaking Benjamin.

Horrible.

On the flip side, Cake does a great cover of I will Survive

I think that Slayer is the only band in existence who cannot record good versions of their own songs. Every single Slayer cover I've heard is miles better than the original.
Hahahaha! The Forsaken's version of Blackened is much better than the original too. There are also some Kreator covers that hit harder than the originals...though not as many as Slayer. :D

Personally, I didnt like the original "Land of Confusion" be Genesis. I thought that Disturbed's cover was much better.
