Source engine/HDR update for HL2/EP1 still coming?

Has anyone heard any updates on the new source engine content being released for PC owners? For a while there was a big uproar, then a supposed email from Gabe N., then lots of talking on forums... and for a while now I haven't heard anything about it. Someone told me the whole thing was a lie, which is possible, but it is just as possible what they said was a lie. So I thought I'd come to the one place where people can't lie or make stuff up... A FORUM!

Anyway, yeah, just wondering.
 
The Update is still coming, there is no ETA on when they are being released.
Right now they are focusing on getting the TF2 updates out.

That may be... for both yourself and many others. But there is also a large group of people out there that are still waiting for the update. I go back and play HL2 every once and again, and to have all the engine upgrades would be fantastic. Also, there's a certain something about console people getting content that PC people don't have that makes a lot of hardcore PC fans feel alienated... the last developer we'd expect that from is valve. valve is our last great hope (and maybe Blizzard, though I'm not a huge Blizzard fan.)

we would have to wait much longer for the final product if they did it for the pc as well. one thing i dont understand is is that valve said it would be easy to change it to the new engine. maybe they are still having trouble with the achievements?
 
The portal gun was implemented into HL2 within another thread, the engine changed as well.

BMS should follow in their wake.

Extracting HL2 maps and materials into Portal is quite simple. No such thing as getting the gun into vanilla HL2 though.
 
Well it's good to hear that the consensus is the updates are still coming.

wow, the portal gun lends itself nicely to hl2 gameplay.

And valve said they don't want to rule out the possibility of Gordon Freeman using the portal gun in the future... I think that's great.

Blizzard has a ton going for it right now. Far more than the run of the mill gaming community actually believes.

How do I know this? Well... lets just say that two of my good friends are developers at blizzard.

Umm... I think EVERYONE knows what a powerhouse Blizzard is. Not a big secret there bud. I was just saying I'm more of a valve fan. I was a pretty big Blizzard fan back in the day with Diablo/Starcraft, but after that I lost interest.

BTW... I happen to have THREE, count 'em THREE good friends that are developers at Blizzard, and they are bigger than your friends, oh and also I know lots of other important people.

Oh and also I'm a ninja.

If I was going to divulge internal Blizzard secrets on the internet, I wouldn't do it here buddy.

I know exactly where they are in their current game development and would not break the trust of my friends at Blizzard in order to impress some goof's inquiries.

More importantly, no one here would care anyways.
 
I rather have them wait for Ep3 to come out and update HL2 + ep1&2 to ep3lvl.
 
Why don't we wait 50 years... we might as well wait until Half-Life 4's source code is around!
