After watching the Tenements movie, it's apparent that character models still do not turn realistically. What I mean is that the characters still seem to spin in one spot when want to turn around, instead of making it look like they are moving their feet in order to turn.

If you watch the combine soldier closest to you when they are kicking a door down. The guy who tells you to stay back then turns around to enter the room. He literally just spins around in one spot, without any foot movement, and walks off.

Don't mean to moan, and please don't flame me for this as it's just my observation, but it's disappointing that such a beautiful game lacks this basic animation.

guess the game really will suck then

But in turn, if you watch the trainstation video, and after the combine knocks on the door, you'll see he'll back up and turn to face you in one blended animation. It looked pretty damn realistic to me.

It looks fine to me. Stand up for a second, then turn the same way that combine soldier does. You don't move your feet as much as you think you do. Or atleast I don't.

I dont understand how people can have any enjoyment of games if they notice stuff like this, i dont know any game that does it any better.

He does it really quickly, so it's hard to tell... but he could just be kinda pivoting around on one foot. I have to say I stand up to turn round a few times as well, and you'd probably just slide round on one foot as you start walking...

Yep, and this is where the Parametic Animation comes in. Whatever happened that that anyways? It really isn't present in the videos or CS:S. TF2 was/is suppose to have it, and i would assume all source games were going to have it. For those wondering what im talking....

Parametic Animation is the meshing of multiple animations at once. Current games have to select what animation is the most important, a player may be jumping, but then get killed, so the system would have to stop the "jump" animation and start the "mid-air death" animation. Parametic Animation will eliminate this problem, because a player can be running, jumping, firing, taking damage, and the system will "merge" them all together, giving higher priority to the more important ones. (pain ect.)

Among the others listed, check out what else Parametric Animation will be able to do:
Our characters don't actually strafe. In real life, no-one strafes. Instead, they run one way, and aim to the left or right. Parametric animation allows us to "lie" with our animation to make the game seem more real. So, when you're strafing left and firing, everyone else actually sees you running to the left and firing to the right.

You know, it's possible to turn around without lifting your feet. It's called pivoting

Exactly. I'm used to military marching, as I used to have to do it alot. Whenever I turn now, I pivot without hardly any feet movement. I've looked at myself doing it in the mirror, and that combine soldier pivots the exact same way I do.

Animation blending is used to do the facial animations, as just one example. There's an animation keyframe for each of the facial expression building-blocks, and each of the phenomes (sp?). These are then blended together in real-time to produce the lip-sync and the facial expressions.

Watching the video again, I think it's rather obvious he pivoted on his foot.

A lil' story for good night to all night-late Europeans:

A.I. and the rest of the hl2.net gang take look at this post, everybody wants to see it. But when they finish it they look at the poster and someone in the crowd shouts: "Get him!" And thus Ruuustar was dubbed Run!star by these forums, because his famous escape from the berserked forumers of hl2.net, enraged by his unfamous post about people turning around on their heels.

It's really no wonder why Valve don't release all that much media, because no sooner is it out that people start complaining about bits and pieces of a game that isn't finished yet. That's really insignificant to the overall result anyway.

It is present, a charecter can be walking talking, making hand gestures, shrugging, and performing all the facial stuff at once, its all blended and stops the jerking u see in other games, the CSS movements may not be true to life perfect, but no games are, they are alot smoother than anything ive seen, in barricade when barney runs and turns round to face the gunship, i think that looks perfect, and mixes a couple of different animations.

This is the sort of thing Valve would delay the game for another 3 months to get fixed.

So, KEEP COMPLAINING fueling the reason for more tweaking/polishing OR realise it's such a minor problem that affects virtually every PC Game in the market and be quiet..quiet :)

They arn't listening to us. trust me. They won't run back and change something at this point.

Looked pretty realistic to me. I wouldn't have noticed if not for this thread. :rolling:

they should create a new forum called 'Nitpicking' ;)

Things like this i never notice in a game, maybe if I played a couple of times and not focusing on story or top half of characters.
