i was jsut wondering if anyone knew if half life 2 had started to be reliased over steam. i am just hoping someone would know thanks

Believe me, you'd know if that were the case.

Are you trying to say Realized, or Released?

Some of the files are supposed to be up for preload on Monday, but that's still on the teeter totter (not the whole game, just the files that won't change).

Half-life 2 will be released on a tuesday. by my reckoning I have a 1 in 7 chance of being right, and by jallopy i like those odds!

HL2 will be released on a day that ends with the letter "y". I guarantee it.

It will also be released at some point in the future.

Wow, this forums attracts all the geniuses from around the globe!

Feburary 29, 2005. That's the release date right there.

Im a Steam noob :o
Can someone point me to where i can preorder HL2 through Steam?
I assume you have to preorder it before you can Preload on Monday?

Also does EVERYONE have to have Steam running to play HL2 SP and MP?
Or is it a difference between buying it in a store or through Steam?

You'll probably be able to place a pre-order once the preloading goes live on Monday, although nobody really knows if you have to preorder before you can preload.

To play HL2 MP, yes, you have to have Steam running. If you buy HL2 over Steam, yes, you have to have it running to play HL2 SP. If you have to have Steam running to play HL2 SP from a store is more debatable.

There is no difference in the game itself between the store-bought version and the Steam version.

I can go further and say it will be released on a day that ends in "day" :p

It is highly doubtful you will have to have Steam running if you buy retail because, believe it or not, there are still people without internet connections!! :O

Well, you never know. They might release an update which changes the behaviour of Steam in such a way that it makes sense for Steam to run offline without connecting to the internet ever. For example, maybe if you install HL2 off CD, it installs Steam and instead of asking you to login, it checks the CD drives for the HL2 play disc and lets you play offline if you have it in the drive.

That seems rather pointless, though. I don't think Valve would just install Steam on someone's computer for no reason. That person may never connect to the internet their entire life.

:| Think again. If they CAN make you play with Steam, they probably will.

Well I just tried starting up Steam (disconnected from the interent) and it gives you the option of starting in off-line mode. So whether it's pointless o not, HL2 Retail, will probably automaticly instal Steam on everyone's computer if it doesn't already have it. Silly VALVe!

Hmm that wasn't the case with Condition Zero, you could install the singleplayer game into any folder just like with any other game and if you wanted to install the multiplayer version only then would it create a steam folder. :)

Well, yeh, it would be a little pointless. The only point I can see to it would be having the HL2 install just be .gcf files, rather than a conventional kinda install. Would skip the step of converting the HL2 retail files.
