Stern's visit to an American Christian Store

yes it happened ..was in the US yesterday (niagara falls) to do a little cross border shopping and while there my wife and I walked into a Christian store ..me more out of amusement while my wife was looking for a bible for her mother who needed a new one - thankfully she's not all that religious and jokes with me about the evils of catholicism ..see I'm catholic (my family is) she's United Church (anglican, by far the most modern of christian faiths))

I was really surprised by the amount of patriotism and "god bless our troops" books, posters, bumper stickers etc ..there was even bibles for specific branches: ie: A Marines Bible, Sailors Bible etc ...I just find it extremely odd that a religion would support mass murder in this day and age cuz that's pretty much what war is today.

The woman who was there was nice enough to answer a few questions, specifically
this version has small text, this version has leather binding etc) but I couldnt help but notice the zealot's gleam in her eye ..I really wanted to challenge her on a few things but felt it was inappropriate ..ok that's a lie ..my wife told me to behave before we entered the store

I guess I'm not really trying to make fun of christians I was just taken aback by the sheer hypocracy of it all .."bibles for people who kill, get your jesus apprioved death books here before getting your legs blown off in some foreign land full of unclean heathens" ...as an outsider looking in it looks just a little crazy

oh and I fnally got to see a copy of bibleman ...pure comedic gold ..I just couldnt make up that kind of stuff if I tried

oh and I loved the bumper stickers

"All it takes is one time to get AIDS"

"Abortion costs the life of a child" ...no shit sherlock

"Jesus supports the troops" ...I wanted to buy it but it was $12 for something my neighbours might take the wrong way ...I wonder if in some dusty shop in Afghhanistan there's a bumper sticker for sale that reads "Allah supports the troops, bring them home safely" ...is it just me or are people just off their rockers?

I've read this thread before. Repost? o.0

Hehe, I saw one of those when I was 6. Even then I thought it was stupid. I laughed at its stupidity. I think it was trying to be stupid..I mean, Bibleman's suit squeaks. But anyway.

no, this is the first time I've posted it ...seeing as how I went to the US yesterday

was your misspelling of Christian in the title intentional :E

what else happened on your visit?

oops, fixed

what else happened? while I'd really like to say that I crossed the border at high speeds as a result of being chased by pickup trucks full of angry locals carrying pitchforks while Dueling Banjos played in the background ..but alas that was not the case. Actually most people i talked to were very friendly ..

Those things were around since World War I and World War II -- funny, I also think Islam is another branch of religion which supports mass murder.

Actually most people i talked to were very friendly ..

Its like your writing from the perspective you talked to savages, not people. :D Oh, but its CptStern ... no suprise there. :D

that's your interpretation yet I can assure you that that isnt the case ..I find it actually insulting that you'd say that ..but then again it's "Stern" saying it ..so what do you expect?

ummm Allah didnt call for this war ....

Oh yes, he did -- thats why Al-Qaeda and other terror organizations are responsible for some of the worlds most disturbing atrocities. :) Ho hum! I must've forgotten ...

I find it actually insulting that you'd say that

Well I find it insulting you never thought this before ... :D

which part? the fact that your comment is idiotic or the fact that I think your comment is idiotic?

Its not about supporting murder. Its about giving support to the young men and women that serve their country. Fathers, mothers, daughters, sons, uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews, neices... you name it. These are people, and they're not just mindless drones. So people give them the respect and support they deserve, IRREGARDLESS of what their views on war are.

If you hate war, you're not gonna hate your son if he ever enlists in the military because of that, right? Thought so.

Right, but that was partly as a result of the West (Britain and America's) approach to foreign policy in the region in the past. There's a hundred other factors leading away back into the dawn of history so you can't really simplify it to that extent and say 'Muslims started the war on terror'. No way. You can argue that terrorism is a response to heavy-handed tactics by the US and UK and you can argue that heavy-handed tactics are a result of terrorism until the cows come home. In the end, it seems like both are intertwined and niether side has the good sense to just stop provoking the other.

yes but as a religion that condemns murder/violence etc it's just odd that they support the war Not the troops, the war) ..war is against everything jesus stood for

NEWSFLASH:

Not all christians are "evil dumb propaganda-spewing zealot hypocrites"

wow! now isn't that something? :O

yes, guess that's why I wrote this:

"I guess I'm not really trying to make fun of christians I was just taken aback by the sheer hypocracy of it all"

Mind you most of the military is in a support/technical job vs a grunt combat one. So it's not giving support to the people who kill..it's giving support to the people that serve our country. Mind you they may not agree with Iraq or any of that. They signed up to fight for our country and this is what they were sent off to so don't attack the soldiers as if they are barbarians or some sort of murderers.

Also mind you the people blowing innocent civilians up think thats what is best for them and their religion. So to them Allah is telling them to blow themselves up.

I did find Bilbeman funny though...haha props on finding that. I never knew he existed. Man that's pretty pathetic and funny.

heh, it was probably for the best that your wife kept you on a short leash. Otherwise this topic might have ended up being titled
"Stern's big brawl outside at an American Chrstian Store". :p

Why do you take the most extreme person to try and ridicule Christianity? Just because one man interprets the bible a certain way doesn't necessarily make it correct. You assume all people must be as nutty/crazy as him. That's stereotyping. I'm really getting sick of this. Same goes with Bin Laden. Just because he's a psychotic asshole doesn't mean all Muslims are as such. In every religion/culture/country/society there will always be the extremists. Just because they act a certain way, doesn't mean everyone apart of that group is like that. Religion doesn't force people to start wars and cause murder, it's the people who believe that others must be converted to their religion or die. As much as i know you hate Christianity, it has done tons of good. Do you think people normally in America would donate millions of dollars of money and aid? No. Because of many types of religions in America, LOTS AND LOTS of aid has come from people donating to their church and is brought over through missionaries in contries such as Africa. Who do you think goes down to poor areas during Christmas to serve food to poor familes? Religious groups. Religion, sadly, is one of the only things to drive everyday people to give generously, aside from major disasters. So as odd as it seems to see so many Christian stores sell murchandise, it's most likely the funding for aid programs. But of course, like in ALL groups, there are always groups of people trying to con people for money.

The [Christian] religious nuts desperately want to support what they perceive as the only nation in the world that's Under God. Buncha freaks. But if they're minimally legitimate, they're offering support to the Nation and hoping for peace, not pushing for the Mass Slaughter of Innocents.

Someone's lied to you, though, if Christ in your mind is a pinko commie walk-all-over-me hippie.

sigh, how could you have failed to miss the point? kerberos made a comment that allah was leading the charge ..I responded by saying that in the case of the americans it's seems that god led the charge (re: what bush said)

I think you people need to back off, you're seeing something that isnt there ...I distinctly said I wasnt making fun of christians but rather I found it odd that there was so much war memorabilia at a religious store ...I cant see how I could have made that fact any plainer ....I guess you see what you want to see

I must have dreamed it then. Weird. I swear I saw this yesterday.

But it's not "just" that one commit, and your probably right that I misread it and took it out of context with what you really thought, but that commit sparked all the times I have recollected your previous commits towards religion in numerous past threads. Just because you support the troops and want them to be safe, doesn't necessarily mean your for the war. Just as some people may say they like America and like what we stand for, but are not particularly for the war.

Stern who do you think you are? Seriously shut the **** up already. It was a PRIVATELY owned store. As far as I am concerned they can do sell pretty much anything they want in their store as long as its within the limits of the law. And for you to suggest that you were going to go in there and tell her a few things about the falseness of her beliefs? Who in the hell gave you moral superiority over all humankind? There are a few overly zealous Christains out there, but to suggest that all Christians are like that is stupid. By the way, if you don't like it here or the shops you see here, here's a hint DON'T COME!! its just that simple. FInally after my little rant, have you ever heard the adage, the best way to hurt people is through their wallet? You may have diametrically opposing views on religion with them, but I assure you, the store owner had the last laugh when you coughed up the cash for the Bible or whatever it is you bought.

I like how some people don't actually read your posts before replying to em, Stern

I'm with ya ;)

Of course he is, why would you even ask?

On topic: You should post stories of pwning Christians, I think they'd have pretty good entertainment value.
