Stuff I only noticed the 2nd time around

I don't think Anticitizen is anyone's favourite level, and it doesn't exactly bowl you over with ingenious level design like some of the other chapters do. One cool thing about it, though, is how alot of the scripted material plays differently each time you play through it. Just to take one example, the last screen shot I posted shows a resistance member being blown off a makeshift bridge by a shell. But the way he/she falls is allways different, sometime cruising over the rooftops, other times ricocheting off walls and plummeting into the courtyard. I took one screenshot that clearly shows the resistance member's MP7 flying away from the body. Another time, I witnessed that scene before going up to the second level and lowering the bridge, but when the bridge came down an mp7 seemed to fall from the sky. The conclusion I reached was that the weapon had gotten caught in the edge of the bridge after flying out of the guy's hand and then fell down when the bridge was lowered. I found that extremely cool.

Similarly, the "Run for your life" citizen can be either a man or a woman, and can actually survive the attack by the Combine soldier.

Apart from that, I just like the gameplay which is tight and tense (despite being a little repetetive). It doesn't rely on puzzles to create chokepoints, but instead puts you through a meat-grinder of house to house fighting.

And now, the second most spectacular citizen death in Anticitizen One:

This has become my favorite level for replay. Even though there are no puzzles to speak of (unless you count the radioactive zombie tunnel), the action is fast-paced and there are some great little cinematics.
I remember I was played with the Substance mod on that part. That citizen getting shelled was blown off the pathway and landed on one of my squad, the Combine got 2 birds with one stone >_<

I certainly noticed it about the fourth time I played it! The chopper went right over my head and nearly crushed me as it landed. The pilot landed just two metres away. Afterwards I took geat pleasure in whacking the guy several times with my crowbar!Lol! :D

Am I the only one who likes waisting my shotgun ammo to dump dead bodies from high ledges? Weee...

Smack them with the crowbar at the head instead, it may not be as satisfying, but they still fall - and you don't waste ammo.

Heh heh. I used my pulse cannon you blast that guy around the lake. It got me thinking that someone ought to make a mod in which two guys in muskippers play water polo by blasting a combine body at each others' goals.

Oh, here's a question: how do the water physics (i.e. the physics in water) effect the headcrabs? If somebody can lure some into water... in Garry's Mod they go flying for ever until they hit the skybox.

They drown... Saw that with the one from the red barn in water hazard... It looks funny as they struggle to get out with their little legs...

Hot damns! I never noticed the flaming citizen or the helicopter pilot. And I've played through the game a good 6 or so times.

Unusual screams in Ravenholm?

I just noticed something in the Wikipedia entry for Ravenholm. Prior to a recent revision, the entry had mentioned a "Wilhelm Scream" being heard in game. This was later changed to "woman's scream", with a note explaining that "the scream heard ingame definitely isn't a Wilhelm." This makes sense to me, as I know the Wilhelm scream well and would have known it had I heard it.

(Interestingly, a Wilhelm scream is featured in the Team Fortress 2 teaser, when a player is blown up by the Demoman).

So, my question is, has anybody noticed any unusual or distinctive screams in Ravenholm, and if so, where to they occur?

What's a Wilhelm scream? is it the default "RRAAAAHHHHHHH!" scream that they've been using in movies for years?

Is the guy in your avatar the man flashing here and there in the Exorcist?

Yeah, I've heard that woman's scream. It really surprised me actually, it's a really faint scream but it's really distict over the other background noises like the howling and such. I heard it outside the house that Gregori appears in the doorway of - just beside the burning corpses. I stood around and listened for a while but I didn't hear it, nor did I when I re-started the checkpoint.

Spooky stuff - glad it's not just my imagination.

The 'chopper pilot body is pretty cool, I've had him land in the water a few times. In fact, whenever I play through that area I try to get him out, but I'm not sure what the correct method is to doing it, it just randomly happens for me.

Not seen the burning woman before, though. Going to have to go through and find that.

The falling soldier never happens for me when I gun down the chopper. ;-/
It doesn't happen when you kill the chopper. It happens after you do a certain amout of damage and then it goes on it's hyper-crazy-mega-bombing-run. Perhaps it goes onto auto-pilot after he pops out?

See, I never understood who that soldier actually was because even when you get him out the gunship, it still shoots and flies after you.

I'm pretty sure it's a double-seater. I believe the concept art in RtB shows as much. But then, trying to rationalise a helicopter that carries thousands of times its own mass in bombs is probably futile anyway.

My funky piece of psuedo-science theory would be to suggest that both the Helicopter and the HEV series of combat suits open portals to a weapons cache on Xen.

Either that or NANO TECHNOLOGY.

The portals are in Gordon's ANUS of course.

The portals are in the chopper's MECHANUS.

Of course. Either that or anus bots.
